I'm taking a break from pondering the business side to focus on the equipment as I re-launch myself into the DJ biz. I had seriously thought about creating a thread here that would've served as a 'blog' of sorts of the re-launch, as people could have watched my process of 're-launching' and follow the trials and tribulations I'm encountering and dealing with, which I think I'm come across some interesting ones.

But, anyway, back to the topic at hand. My current dilemma equipment-wise is in trying to decide if I want to buy a new case, a la the Odyssey FRGS-04:

Or use something like this to attach to my existing SKB 8x4 or 10x6 racks I still have:

Or possibly utilizing something like this:

One of my primary objectives equipment-wise, is to keep my system as light-weight and modular as possible. I've read that the Odyssey case is 30-ish lbs on its own. Since the SKB cases are only 11 or 12lbs empty, having had (2) dual-CD players, at 15lbs each, mounted in it brings the weight up.

As of right now, if I were to do an Odyssey case, I'd only be mounting a Denon controller (like I've yet to purchase, but am considering the DN-2500 and the DN-4500), a 1U Cortex mixer (bought for short money to try it out, but may move up to the Rane 1U mixer (MP4?), a wireless mic receiver and a Furman power conditioner (though I'm considering other options for this, too), which would bring the weight relatively close to what I'm used to with the existing SKB case with the CD players.

Well, that's the deal. I'm very interested to get some feedback. Thanks in advance to those who respond!

The L-stand sux. I had one. Sold it quick. The Stanton Uberstand looks better if that's how you want to go.

I set one of my cases up with this:

This flips over the top of the case, looks like this:

On my second case I bought a hinged LCD monitor mount. The end result:

the DJRAK stuff is expensive, however very, VERY well-built.

Something else you may consider is:

This is an SKB "Studio Flyer". I have a pair of MP4 Ranes in mine, as I use Serato and OTSAV, and both programs won't share unless I unload the Serato drivers. I find the Rane MP4 sounds great, and the D/A conversion is top-notch. I can bring an amp rack, and play directly from the Studio Flyer. Very light, quick setup.

It seems you are in Acton, MA....... I am only a short jump out RT. 2 from you. If you wanted to see or hear how these work that could easily be arranged if you like. My email and contact info is on the website link at the bottom of my post.

Best,

Paul

Thanks, Paul. I will definitely drop you a line!

I'd be happy to have you. Plus, I'm always looking for guys to network with in the area. Too many DJ's are always at each other's throats.....I find if you can find guys who can work together.......everyone benefits!

Rainy weekend , my outdoor gig for 8/29 has been rescheduled. Except for midday Saturday when I have an errand to run, I will be around if your schedule is free.

Best,

Paul
