This? If so, I'd hardly call it a song and pray that it doesn't catch on around here...

YouTube - New Boyz - You're A Jerk

OM F'n G that's the song the girls were asking for thank God I didn't have it... and even if I did there would have been no way in hell it would have got played ever..... I'm glad I don't have it!

Yeah, who wants hit songs that the audience is asking for, and would dance to, if you had it.

Steve I don't think it's quite that simple.... did you listen to either of those songs?

Now, granted I do mostly weddings.... and neither of those songs clean or not would be appropriate... especially if kids are present.

I know if I had kids I wouldn't want them listening to that.... I also realize how old that makes me sound, but I don't care... those songs are way horrible and I don't mean just from a content stand point they are just horrible musically speaking.

@ Steve & Rob:

You both have good points. If a song is objectional I will try to get around it. If not I will play a request. They were happy with my suggestion to play "Disturbia" instead. Doesn't always work, but there are times I choose that path instead.

In this case I didn't have it, and didn't buy it because that video made me think it wouldn't last.

Rob:

Other than you don't like it, what's objectionable about "You're A Jerk"?

Do you like every other song you play? Is it required?

Steve:

Good point... right off the bat though coming out of the gate with the Jerk loop..... I can see the adult's in the room hair stand up on end... this song is for shock value pure and simple... it might be hot today but tomorrow it will be yesterday's trash...

You're right my disdain for the song will keep me from purchasing it.... and if it comes to me on my subscription I wont be ripping it.

Let's face it though it's one song out of how many hot hits for the fickle minded? Not gonna miss it. It has no staying power.

I even Mixed in the Jerk with Stanky Leg and they go nuts.

Rob - I get what you are saying, but for every gig, there is that 1 magical song that for no rhyme and reason will just tear the dance floor at its seams. People screaming in joy.

If it happens to be a song like the Jerk song, so be it. Paying 1$ is a good trade off to get that kind of response. If it is a teen party, older people in the audience will know that its a "Teen / Kids Thing " and will not hold it against you.

If I've never heard of the song and was totally unaware of it, if they say " The DJ Sucked", I can live with that.

If I knew of the song and let my personal bias against the song prevent me from playing a song and they say " The DJ sucked", then I'll be kicking myself in the a55 and regret not having/ playing it.

Just me though, YMMV.

Hey Steve,

Let me have a crack at this one.

No, I don't like every song I play. Still, some times I won't play a song because it rubs me the wrong way. It is rare, and rarely a problem.

I don't like this one because it just doesn't feel like a long timer. It's a hunch, that's all. And, I don't like it.

Nothing really big here, just where I'm at.
