Girls Gymnastics Music Suggestions... got any?

I have a Girls Gymnastics End of Year Party to do.

It seems that there will be an age demographic with the majority in the 6-16 range with a couple of 17/18 year olds plus coaches and parents.

I've given them both a client login and guest login to make music requests, but those of you that do youth events your help would be greatly appreciated.

Any suggested songs or artists to get heavy on?
 
With 6 year olds there, I would keep things super clean. Check Radio Disney Top 30 for a good starter playlist.
 
I can tell you what will work for all of the kids.... Cotton Eyed Joe. The little ones learn it in daycare.... and I have had many a teen girl ask me for that song when doing fund raisers. Macarena will work. Cha Cha Slide, and recently in my area, people are just starting to ask for Cupid Shuffle.
 
Believe it or not, just about anything. My daughter has been in gymnastics for several years, and I have seen the competitive team at the gym practice their routines to a mix of everything down to and including Walk This Way by Aerosmith.

Though I personally don't mind, I was surprised to hear that song, but nobody in the whole place even blinked or thought twice and it was obviously on a mix cd they were used to using, so there ya go!

I run into the same thing at the ice skating rink my daughter goes to... during the open skating they just play whatever is on the radio from Low to Nickelback to the Chicken Dance.

I say do whatever and just try your best to keep it audience/age appropriate and don't rack yourself too hard thinking it has to be unusual stuff or stuff you wouldn't play elsewhere..
 
I would treat it like any other school dance or maybe a B-Day party where you will have all ages...

All the new stuff clean edits you know, and some fun classics in there.
 
My wife's a coach at our local gym and my daugters on the team...so I work this exact event every few months. Don't try and think themed music, just play to the ages. LOTS of Disney stuff (Miley, Demi - don't forget, Jonas, HSM3, but the new Hannah Montana the movie songs...aka, hoedown throwdown, the climb) line dances, and make sure to play as much current but clean as you can...metro station, Lady Gaga, rhianna, beyonce, Jesse McCartney (how do you sleep) they'll love some dj crazy frog (axel F or we are the champions)...barbie girl maybe.

Try to interact with them some too! They have lots of places to run around in the gym (I assume you'll be playing there)...games akin to red-light- green-light, or simon says, hula hoop contests, limbo.

Then do this and be a HERO!!!! Have all the girls line up at one corner of the floor and have them take turn doing a tumbeling pass. Some will throw multiple round off back handsprings-back tucks-layouts...and blow your mind, other cute little girls and boys will just go out and do a cartwheel...but ALL of them will LOVE the attention. One thing about gymnasts is they LOVE to show off. This will also kill a good 30 minutes (they would do it all night and love it if you let them).

Hannah Montana is big now with these young girls especially since the movie is out,Jonas brothers(young girls groupy gang) and Miley just like what JT mentioned earlier.

I'm telling you, as I have said to others, Hannah Montana is not nearly as popular as you think. I do primarily kids parties, and while some will still like HM, there is a backlash against her building now. I see it when I talk to the kids. It is like they are sick of her.

But Jonas Brothers is huge.... and they like Taylor Swift a lot.
 
well if Hannahs movie numbers are of any relevance I would say perhaps she doesnt have a friend in Pennsylvania but perhaps in Elkhart where they may be allover her like white on rice. The numbers show quite a huge fan base if ticket sales have anything to do with it.
 
This will take place at a local Golf Courses banquet room.... only 3 hours for my portion of the night...

I think if I load up on some of the stuff you guys have mentioned... specifically the Hanna, Miley, Jonas, Naked Brothers, Cheetah girls, HSM etc... which I have none of except for a few strays from that genre...

I've been watching the Top 40 in my area and getting those tunes too that I don't already have....

I just didn't know if there were any trends in particular I'd want to invest in or maybe stay away from as the case may be.
 
Since you will not be at a gym, depending on their attire you can try these: At many gymnastic meets while the girls are waiting for the judges to tally the scores and places, the girls will participate in handstand contests. You say go, the last one "hand" standing wins...they love it. They will also love the limbo because they are all so limBER. Bring a stick, have a couple older girls hold it and away you go.

Other than that play the hits and you'll be a hit.
 
dont let the naked brothers meet the cheetah girls now,that spells trouble,if you know what i mean,its teen time.
 
Proud daddy is actually heading to St Louis on Friday for the Missouri state gymnastic meet. My daughter Delaney has a good shot at winning the bad boy :sqbiggrin:
