is this laser light legal ?

ok im looking for a new laser light . i was looking at the Chauvet Scorpion LGX 10mW Fat Beam, only 10 mw i would need 2 or more. i saw this on ebay but dont know if this laser is legit in the states. can some one tell me more info ? or suggestions on laser lights.. heres the link to the light

I must admit, they have a lot of cool products but it it doesn't look like they are made for North America market.

I think the highest legal output with a normal beam to operate without a permit in the US is under 5mW. The "Fat Beam" 10mW can be higher because the beam is dispersed with optics so the focal point is larger.

You could use them, but you would require a variance for each show you do. They are extremely brighter than anything Chauvet and ADJ have but the risks and liabilities are too big to get into.

Also the lasers have to be FDA certified for use in the US. Being that those units are from China probably not. Also IF these aren't certified and you use them your insurance will go out the window.

Lasers are very cool... but would I ever use them as a Mobile DJ... Absolutely not... In a club install... I would do it in a heart beat... 4.95mW is usually whats sold, as when you hit 5mw you enter another class of lasers...

Check with X Laser, they were at MBLV and sell quality lasers.

Here in Canada, I believe the laws re: use of the laser is very lax....
