I have a wedding on the 27th and they want a 30's and 40's theme deal... mostly during dinner and pupu's, but for some dancing as well...

I have a good list started, but since I do not play that stuff very often,I would love to get a few ideas of what I should play....

You may wish to look at some Big Band music from the Dorseys, Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller etc. Count Basie is another possibility. We found some older collections that have Frank Sinatra singing with the greats of the era.

Hello Dolly is a good sing along tune. Hank Williams tunes go back to the era as well.

Costco rocks........

that is where I bought my "IZ" CDs on Maui for only $10.69 apiece.......the same CDs on the "mainland" were selling for $16-$18.

One thing I noticed on my visit to Maui Costco (in 2003)...the CD department was TOTALLY different than the ones in Northern Cali.

To wit: the large selection of Izrael Kamakawo'ole and other Hawaiian artists' CDs, not stocked on mainland Costcos.

Chuck's mileage on da island Costco may vary.....

I'm with Ruben on this one, and second his vote! :thumbsup:

I've got volumes 1-4 and they have a very nice variety and pretty good selection of material on them. :thumbsup:
 
The problem with this genre, quite frankly.....is that the people who like this music are all in Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities.

OTOH, my daughter (and others in her HS "Salsa & Swing Club") are learning to like the Big Band Era songs.

Fortunately, the kids of today tend to prefer the oldies that have decent CD sound quality (like GRP label's "In The Digital Mood").....so I don't need to beef up my Time-Life stockpile any more than what I already have.
 
The problem today's generation has is that there is no "generation gap" anymore. It's a generation "nick". Too many young people having children results in lost culture.

If more exposure was available to the younger people today, they might actually have a wider "choice" of music. I strongly recommend that young people get out and see some live blues or big band. There's nothing in the last 20 years that can hold a candle to the early American music.

Thank goodness for artists like Michael Buble', Rod Stewart, Tony Bennet and Bette Midler for dooing their best to give new life to a truly worthy genre.

Here's a great CD to play around the house on Sunday mornings.
