Working With HDMI Out

I'm shopping for a new computer everything seems to have HDMI out not s-video. Due to the TV's that are installed in bars, and my projectors not being HDMI I need to know if there is a work around for this problem.

I'm not moving to a desktop and installing a video card.

I want something with 256mb of video ram and 4 gig of system ram. If possible I would buy a notebook with 512mb of video and 8 gig of system ram.

There are a large number of box and cable types of adapters available. There was also a thread on this topic last week. I forget who the author was.

Also, there are many refurbished/discontinued notebooks out there with the older ports.

S-video is a dying breed. If you need to connect to it, you probably need to get an interface adapter. HDMI is the interface of choice on all new TVs. Laptops are moving to the DisplayPort interface which typically have HDMI and DVI adapters. In fact, the old 15 pin analog VGA interface is being removed from some laptops with the DisplayPort being the only video output.

I have a Macbook Pro. Can you please explain to me where the s-video output is on it?

I for one started the one thread maybe a couple of weeks ago.

My problems are with my new Macbook with the mini DisplayPort.

Currently, I can only run a SINGLE monitor via the Mini DisplayPort to a single Samsung 32" monitor of mine via the mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter - then putting a DVI to HDMI converter - then the HDMI cable.

I tried the VGA route first with NO SUCCESS. Again, this is with a new Macbook.

So for last Saturday's show, I ran an older PC laptop - with a VGA splitter to 2 monitors for a graphic display - then switched the one monitor to the HDMI input for Karaoke lyrics with the Macbook when people got the courage to start Karaoke.

It worked... sorta.
