OK,

Got a couple grand burning a hole in my pocket and want a new pair of powered speakers. Looking for some input/recommendations on powered speakers besides the ones listed as follows:

I already have a pair of the following...

* Pair: JBL EON G2 15's
* Pair: JBL EON 515's (Just got B4 Xmas)

* I also have a BOSE 502A/BP Setup and am getting tired of it although the sound quality is great.

* I have used the BOSE L1 and does not have enough low end for my taste. Although once again, the sound quality is phenomenal.

I have done a ton of homework on FBT, QSC, JBL PRX115, Yorkville, Etc. The fact is the jobs I do are 95% weddings, usually no more than 250 people. We also do many ceremony's before the receptions so I need a set of versatile powered speakers, that do not weigh a ton, and have a little more power and low-end then my EONS. I love the EONS, they just do not have the low end or sound quality I am looking for. BTW, lugging a Sub is not an option on account of a bad back :) I do not play at rediculous volumes either! Concentrate the volume on the dance floor!

So if you have a pair of powered speakers you love and have heard them next to a set of EON's and think they blow-them-away... please recommend them here so I can do some homework on them as wedding season is fast approaching and this is going to be our busiest year yet!

BTW, no offense to Mackie owners, but is their new stuff still overheating/exploding? I Have thought about them as well. Thanks in advance for you reccomendations.

I have the RCF 310A very light and do weddings almost exclusively.

I bought the RCF bags for them and they stay in them at all times.

A great little speaker light / loud terrific sound and only need a Sub (705As) 800 watt, when you want the extra feel but most of the time just the tops.

They rate pretty well on the attached PDF test file.

Don - You are going to struggle with the bass response you desire with just full range cabininets, especially with a $1500-$2000 range.

Over on DJ Chat; Ron (fusion) is selling a pair of FBT Maxx 6A's; the bass response is OK on their own. They certainly blow away the EON's. I have a Pair and have used them at weddings.

You could look at the Top/sup set up Kevin Nichols has, or even the Dynacord set up that Hired Power just bought...they both have lightweight subs....but mpriced well avove 2K

Likely you need to look at the RCF 525A's or the EV ZXA5's....

I use the same set up....The sub is 90lbs....but on a cart or with the dolly attached, it's pretty easy to move around...

Don,

I'm not very far from you (45 miles). Once I get my system, you're more than welcome to come check them out.

If the L1s weren't your cup of tea, give a listen to the DynaCord. Contact Ben at NLFx.

I would add another 800.00 to the 2k budget and get the EV ZXA5's. I am very happy with my RCF and Yorkville rigs but if your are looking for 2 stand alone tops for most of your jobs with out the use of a sub, the EV's will do a great job.

I use a set of the Yorkville NX750p as a stand alone top for some jobs and they sound great with out a sub.

I used to own a pair of Eon's 15. That's all i can say about them.

Now I'm a very happy owner of SB2A(35 lbs)/ZX(118.5 lbs) combo.
This is as light as it gets and they sound amazing.

I also have a pair of RCF 310a (27 lbs).

SB2A/ZX1 combo is good for up to 150-200 people.

If i ever need more lows i would use 2-RCFs, 2-SB2As and 2 passive SB122(33 lbs - rental).

So, my main system (SB2A/ZX) meets all your requirements except price(2300.00), but there is no way around it.

1- versatile
2- do not weigh a ton
3- have a little more power

If i were you, i would replace your JBLs with the SB2A/ZX system.

Just wonder how your JBL EON 515's would sound with the SB2A?

EV offers a fine product. I've yet to read a discouraging word about EVs, no matter what application they're used in. :)

As to the Mackies, I dunno. I've heard from some musicians who load 'em that they've gotten better. Still, I don't trust the brand, not after the fiasco they caused with that Chinee crap.

Eons, well... it's not hard to get a more satisfactory tone. Can't speak for the newer models, though. Personally, I just don't care for the appearance of the Eons.

If you can, take some time to visit a dealer and give the EVs a listen. I think you'll be happy with the overall quality and tone. :)

I've had experience with Mackies and JBL and Work.

PRX series from JBL has a very impressive low end on their 15.

I am 100% for the weight of the cabinet and the response from high to low.

When I get my big boy pants on, I'm springin' for a pair of them. I even like the way they sound outdoors. Wide angle for sure.
