Dude, Motown is among the greatest music of all time.... that stuff you listen to isn't even qualified to smell the jocks of the Funk Brothers....

If you can put yourself into that space in time, when Motown was churning and burning, you cannot deny what it did for music.

It's amazing. The bass lines are fun to pay attention to.

Anyone listen to Gospel? There is NOTHING else on the planet like it.

I don't actively try to listen to it, but I do usually enjoy it when I hear it.
 
I'm always listening to it. It's really the only thing I work to when I'm on the computer I always have my TV tuned to Music Choice's Solid Gold Oldies. It's not always strictly Motown but a good mix of all stuff from the 50's and 60's. :)

Other times when I'm just screwing around on mySpace or IM, I have shoutcast running tuned to a hip hop station to keep up with the new stuff.

I actually don't think I am that extreme.

My Ipod has everything from Rock to country to Broadway shows to Britney Spears on it.

I just don't think anyone to ever come out of Motown could actually sing a note to save their ass.
 
I love it as I do most genres. Life needs a soundtrack and I feel fortunate to have been exposed to so many wonderful mood fillers. My greatest fear and disappointment is that the generation gap (kids having kids) and the mainstream radio stations (too segregated and limited) are going to be the death of these earlier styles.
 
I have a Motown play list set up on my rig. After I get the rig set up and the checks out of the way, I start that up on autoplay. It is for me and my assistant.

Funny story...

A few months back I did a wedding interview in an area of Maryland known for its Klan roots. When I asked about the music they were interested in the couple said, "No N***** music". OK, so we've eliminated a fair amount of Rap and Hip Hop; we might just be down to Country and Rock. So, I then started talking about dinner and cocktails and they said that they wanted Motown for dinner. Without missing a beat I told them that they could not have it and when they asked why I told them that most Motown artists are black.

These two honestly did not know that. These two were the dumbest rednecks I've come across. I told them that we were not the DJ company for them, took back my materials, including the pens, and left.

I tend to play some Motown as a part of the mix that I play for the time while guests are arriving for a wedding reception. It's sincere and peppy, and I stick with the positive stuff, of course, and not the songs about breaking up. It helps keep the mood light as guests are awaiting the arrival of the wedding party. :)
 
I like Motown, but I will only play it when it's requested. My personal listening choice is reggae and house music. It's funny that many of the reggae songs I listen to are influenced by the Motown sound.
