Very simply put, what does it cost you per event to walk out the door?

In simple terms, add up your expenses for a year in business. Then take that figure and divide it by the average number of events you do or want to do. Roughly speaking, that is your cost per event.

This figure will change from year to year and if you don't get the number of events you want or expect it will change for that year. But, this is still a good rough estimation.

3 dollars and 12 cents -- which is about how much it costs to reheat the house, after I open and shut the door.

Given the fact that the heat doesn't work in my car, the odds are unlikely, that I will do that anytime soon... :sqerr: :sqlaugh:

My actual cost to "walk out the door," in your terms.....is about $38. But I've invested tons of my TIME in making my web site organically googliciious (Hey I've just come up with my new avatar nickname at ODJT). Time is money as they say. That's why I have a $500 minimum, even on weekdays. Just the rental value of the equipment I use is worth that!

OTOH, my club minimum is $150 using their equipment, on a monthly contract.

In simple terms, add up your expenses for a year in business. Then take that figure and divide it by the average number of events you do or want to do. Roughly speaking, that is your cost per event.

Total expenses (projected 2,009) - $2,500

Average number of events (65) = $38 cost per event.

This figure will change from year to year and if you don't get the number of events you want or expect it will change for that year. But, this is still a good rough estimation.

This year my goal is to book 85 events, working 50 of them myself.

That will bring my cost per event closer to Steve's at $29.50.

If I'm a part timer then $0 because I only do it for fun and my real job pays the bills.

If I'm full timer then $0 because I just deduct it out of what I can get from the cheap people who are looking for a part time DJ.

I have minimum expenses for advertising right now....almost all Word of Mouth

Will be completing my web site sometime this year.....so...i'll have some added expenses....

But, all of my gear, and vehicles are paid for, So insurance and gas and music are my biggest expenses right now...

So, i'd say $30 bucks or less right now

sorry Tom but what i pay what I actually earn is all of what I do

I dont tell anyone what I make out of what job
some are more some less

so unless your my bank manager that is giving me a big spending loan
then i'll let you know

otherwise no thanks sorry thats my business.....

Dennis:

I was actually just giving you a rough way to estimate what it costs you to walk out the door.

Since i haven't thought about the numbers for this year, I'll give the short answer.

Too much since I'm only looking at about 1 gig/month so far.

I hope to change that tho..

Since I literally dump every penny of mine into the business...I can't say for sure yet. I average spending roughly $12,000 a year on everything, and it looks as if, I will need to spend that much this year for karaoke and such.

So I won't really be able to tell you quite yet, but I should have answers by next year. I dont think this is the answer you were looking for! :sqwink:

Tom: cost depending, what the show is, where I have to travel too, what its like the other end (on setup)

so real costs I dont even let myself know if I have lots left after the show then good but as stated above

Since I literally dump every penny of mine into the business...I can't say for sure yet.

I was actually just giving you a rough way to estimate what it costs you to walk out the door.

That's when I stepped outside and looked for Mr. Hooper. :sqwink:

Now let's figure out how to know when the car needs more gas. :sqlaugh:

Sorry, redundancy is just funny.

My expenses average around $300 per gig. I pay taxes on the rest, which is more than half of the total. so, those of you who are under $100 expenses, I'm guessing you pay a lot of taxes on your income. Unless you are a bottom feeder. ;)

My fixed overhead costs (ie, just to exist as a business entity and do business) per-wedding are $172.16. (Based on my '07-'08 business plan/cost-analysis)

Add another $426 for per-wedding expenses (including my time for meetings, phone calls, emails, loading, driving, setting up, paperwork, music mixing/editing, millage, etc).

Add in a profit margin small enough to make most of you laugh your asses off (actually not too bad... 20%), and that's how I get my rates! :sqlaugh:

$750/4hr reception. Everything else is additional icing on the cake. That's why I charge only $100/hr for ea additional hour at the event - no "premium" overtime pricing - because all my costs are covered in my base-rate for the event.

So ea additional hr, whether contracted for ahead of time, or at the event, stays at $100/hr.

Nice round #s are easier to work with!
