I copied and pasted this code from another DJ's Home Page, no names are mentioned to "protect the innocent":

Notice how the Background Color is the same as the Text Color (white!)

This creates "Hidden Text" and its a GOOGLE NO-NO!!!

If YOUR site is "disappearing from the Organics for no reason," maybe the HTML needs to be revised to bring the site into compliance!

I've read about but not experimented with making the hex code for text just a couple of shades different from the background not effecting ranking. Just a couple of shades often isn't detectable to the human eye.

I don't recommend it but I'm just putting it out there.

I learned this one the hard way. I tried it years ago and got caught. :( They booted my happy arse off and I could not get back on. Not until I let the domain name fall into the hands of someone else and get it back after they let their ownership expire was I able to get it back in the search engines.

Matt perhaps you should just phone the guy versus adding post count here. I dont see the need to post more than a comment saying you see folks planting hidden text on their sites and then explain the issues it can cause one. Anything more is TMI in my humble opinion.

That's cool my friend JT, I'm used to Matt's Bald! oops Bold get to the point posts...

Thanks Matt for pointing that out, as a matter of fact I even forgot that was there, it was put there about 3 years ago and since I really never edit the bottom of the page, It went unnoticed for some time.

Yer always a day late, and a dollar short Matt... :sqwink: :sqlaugh:

It has no effect on ranking these days -- that was something done in the early years of search engines, and ended a number of years ago.

I honestly find it hard to believe, that people still hold onto these old myths...

A classic 'black-hat' method for SEO

that's OK, I used to have some on my page, until Travis removed it!

Ten years ago, it was considered "Good Web Design".

Google changes their algorithms all the time. I have several sites that I manage that float in the top 10 then sometimes do not appear at all.

I'm always in the top 10 -- but I pay them lots of money for adverts, so they keep me there for S&G.

Doesn't matter either way, best I can tell. I don't sell, unless I advert properly.

You get what you pay for -- the net is an advertising medium now, not a freebie like it used to be... ;)

Money breeds money :)

Nice post Rick - I've been cutting peoples bollocks off for years on this one - it's been there for all of 6 + years now - still works sometimes but you know there are low paid snitches out there called 10 99 Quality Agents ;)

I don't recommend it either Dan - There should be no reason to do it if you guys have well constructed websites and a sensible amount of nicely flowing content

I know who that is now... Lived just by me in Walnut Creek well 30 miles south of me?
