My wedding Saturday sure started off with a bang. We were in the hall for all of a half hour when the bride and her new MIL got into a screaming match in the middle of the dance floor. The guests were still just filing in and the grand introductions hadn't even been done yet. The MIL actually yelled to the bride that this wedding wasn't for her(bride) it was for her son. The hall manager was trying to keep it together but the MIL had her in tears. I was warned beforehand that the MIL would try and control everything and she was a real b*tch but I tell you this lady was so over the top it was all I could do to keep my happy face on. She was yelling at the caterer who was on time, the hall manager for not having a hot food table set up (the bride had told her not to) and anyone else who got in her way. The groom had a bad accident where he fell 35' off a roof two months before the wedding and is in a wheelchair for the time being. Needless to say all of our original plans were thrown out the window and we started re-working the wedding plans two weeks out. The groom did manage to make the whole 3 minutes of his first dance standing up which was way more than we expected.
During one of the speeches from Grandma who doesn't speak any english just polish the MIL stood up and yelled at the non polish side of the room to shut up and listen. Grandma went on for way too long and the groom's brother kept trying to get her to stop and she wouldn't hence the impatience. The dance portion of the evening went better than expected. The groom had told me that if I was handed a cd full of polish music I was not to play it. They wanted 90's club music. So when I was handed a cd I politely declined and was berated for that, I told the guy to take it up with the groom and he just decided he was better served to yell at me in polish until the groom's brother stepped in. After a couple hours of calm the bride and groom left an hour early because the groom was in pain from such a long day and standing too much.
Wouldn't you know it when I was tearing down I tried to avoid a small child running around and while taking a speaker off the stand it fell(the stand) over and smashed a large vase. The MIL came right over to me and immediately tells me not to worry, they were cheap vases anyway. Total 180 from earlier in the night. I have a funny feeling her son had a talk with her on the way out. There are more horror tales but this post is already long enough.
