Just wanted to let you know about the wedding with all the "Must Plays" and "Dedications"
As was my thought going into it and the way that I figured it would be, it ended up just wonderful.
In my mind I knew that the B&G knew that there was way to many songs to get through and as long as I programed them right, was fun and professional, all would be good.
So Dinner music was fine, being at the Fairmont Kea Lani, dinner was longer than expected (they take great pride in the service) which allowed me to play some of the slower "must play" songs during dinner.
Dance time rolled around and I had 1:20 mins.... So I started off with the Dedications,,, three in a row.... Can't Take My Eyes Off You, Stayin' Alive, C'Mom Ride The Train.... then an Abba "must play and more Dedications....
Some went over better than others, but the B&G danced to every one and I made a big deal by calling out the person, making a few quips.. "I gotta find out the back story on THIS one!!!".... and being fun,,, my strong point.
9:55 and I had two to get to.. "I Love L.A." and "Ring Of Fire" for the dead uncle!.... I decided to go with "I Love L.A.".... ummm,, they went freakin' NUTZ!!!!! LOL
It was so cool,,, big family circle, sing a-long and everything.. in the break of the song I said my congrats.. "On behalf of everyone down here at The Kea Lani, we want to say once more congratulations to Christina and Gino, Mahalo Nui Loa (thank you very much) for celebrating your day with us and ALOHA!!!"
It's what I say,,, anyway, song ends, lights go to black, crowd goes nuts and I'm feeling pretty sure that I will get a "hana hou" (encore for you Mainlanders! LOL)
BUT,, BAMM... the staff turns on all the lights and ruins the moment...
I walk over to the wedding coordinator and tell them I have one more Dedication and can I play it soft? She says yes....
So I get on the mic and say.... "I have one more Dedication that I would like to get to real fast, it is for Christina's uncle who could not be here with us tonight. Bompy, this is for you....... " I turn on my disco ball and play "Ring Of Fire" at about 4....
The bride is in tears.... I smile...
Afterward, the groom comes up and told me how great I was and yada yada yada, hands me an envelope that had my name on it and was sealed,, you know, the kind they get ready before hand knowing that they are going to give you a tip,,, cool,,, AND he hands me an extra $20.00!
Says that they wanted to give me something extra because it all went so good....
I rule! LOL Very Happy
