Is There a Discount For Sunday?

That's the question I got from someone calling last minute for a wedding reception less than 4 weeks from today.... OMG I just want to reach through the phone and strangle people some times....

I mean really if you go out to get gas on a Sunday are you going to get a discount on your gas, no. If you go to Starbucks on a Sunday are you going to get a discount on your double mocha capachino with extra foam, no.

So, why do last minute brides who have just now decided that they want a DJ think we will give a discount based on the day of the week?

Does it cost us less to provide our services on a Sunday vs a Saturday?

Will the caterer or photographer be offering a discount?

Why should our profession be any different?

Many people do discount, including halls.... why WOULDN"T a bride think a DJ might as well? What's the chance that you'll be at a high paying event on a Sunday? I would guess, not great.

If I was looking for a DJ, I would ask that as well.

Not feeling you on this one, bro.

BTW, some caterers DO charge less, and they have actual food costs to consider.

I'm sure it also depends on what kind of overhead you have along with if your a FT or PT business and if you have staff. It's just me and my wife, a PT business and not much in the way of overhead.
 
Sure some will offer a discount but those are the ones where their prices are already inflated to begin with and discounting wont cut into their bottom line by selling below cost.... I can inflate my price by 80% and give a 20% discount and still make 60% over cost..... sounds great to me but is it really offering a discount?

I'm already at rock bottom pricing any lower and I might as well do it for free. I mean come on a wedding reception for under $400.00 with a system like mine there's no comparison.

I just can't justify discounting to the point of not making money for my time and effort.... isn't my time valuable too?

That might be 100% irrelevant to a prospective client. All I am saying is why get upset?

Correct, some venues, caterers, photographers, djs, etc., do offer discounts for Friday, Sunday or certain months of a year (non-peak wedding months), so I can see why this girl might ask about it.

Would I consider it? Maybe. I guess it would depend on how many events I had booked and if I felt that I was falling behind in numbers (bookings and billing) I would consider it.

But again, that's just me. I would at least find out a bit more before completely dismissing any inquiry.
 
Sunday is sometimes the only day off I have. Even then I schedule meetings for Sundays because that is what the couples have available.

I have never done a Sunday wedding but I would actually charge more because it is taking away precious time from my family.
 
Not dismissing it yet... I'll follow up with her tomorrow to see where she's at on her need... and maybe explain a little better why our service price is what it is... she was only price checking anyway at this point I didn't feel any true note of urgency to hire a DJ.... she said it herself that they weren't planning on even having a DJ in the first place so it's really not that high on her list of priorities to begin.

We'll see....

Some very good points there Karl and I applaud you for your commitment to your family. :thumbsup:

I've never done a Sunday, yet. But I'm sure there will be a time when I'll get that inquiry and I will have to weigh all necessary information before I can ultimately make that decision on taking or turning one down.

I've actually got quite a few Sunday weddings this year and next...all at regular price.

Each of us has to make the decision that works best for ourselves and I understand Karl's point of view as well as others.

It's all good if it works for the individual. :)

Why not just tell her your bottom line rate is a discount.

We charge less Sunday through Thursday its just cake money

Wow. 100% opposite of what happened for me. They wouldn't take one at all; they insisted on a Ron Auger rookie card.
