Not that I want to be associated in any way with Eventective....

Actually yeah you did mention their budget in the cut and paste.... but what you didn't do is mention it as a deterrent to booking the event... I think the biggest deterrent was the demand for pre-approval of all music before it gets played.... nothing like tieing your hands.... sheesh.

However, I might investigate it a little more just to see how flexible they may or may not be.... it could be they are just leery of you playing explicit music.

There's nothing wrong with probing for more information without committing to the client.... call it a fishing expedition.

Sorry if I sounded like I was accusing ya of something...

I don't blame you.... I wouldn't chase them either... just a simple email inquiry would suffice... but that's me.

That being said.... I agree that the posted inquiry was very demanding sounding and has potential bridezilla written all over it. Still I'd be curious.

Got one yesterday for a wedding and reception with 200 people on 04/24/2010, I paid the $2.50 for the lead before I noticed the 2010 date, I emailed a quote, adding in price adjustments. Haven't heard back yet, guess they are doing some very early price shopping. Oh and the reception is only 2 hrs.

This Thursday I am working a fundraiser for the local YMCA. I got the gig through Eventective. It doesn't pay much but its from 11:30am to 2:30pm and it's for charity but hey now I know Eventective is legit.

They charge you $2.50 for all of the information they don't give you up front. I have $12.50 now invested in them and I landed one gig so it seems worth the money if I can land one gig in every 5 paid leads.

Young,

But, I recieved all the info above, plus all their contact info --- email and phone number. What else would I have had to pay for?

Just for info sake, for those of you thinking about signing up for an Eventective account, when a potential customer pitches their event info to the service, it's like price shopping - the info goes to EVERY vendor that is listed with the service.

It doesn't matter what you set your price limits at, even though the service says that your listing settings help filter out low bids, they don't.

It's kind of like that LendingTree.com radio commercial - Banks bid for your business. You basically have to compete with the other vendors offering the same services that you do.

Just thought you folks would like to know.

I'm still getting garbage from them. They all get deleted.

Most of the time, my web site is above theirs in Google anyway. Eventually, the non-cheesy ones will find me!

I had another Eventective lead today. This one had entered a budget that is 20% higher than the regional average. Even if I come in at the low end of their budget it will be more than my most expensive 4 hour package. This one would be a nice lead to work with.

Eventective has been spamming like crazy. They've been snaking email addresses. I just bounce the stuff back and delete it. Way I figure, I didn't ask for their emails.

I have a unique perspective on Eventective. they are actually based here in Portland, Maine and I have chatted with management there.

Here are the two big problems with Eventective as I see them.

1. Lack of definition when it comes to a qualifying lead.

Most leads state that they are looking for caterers, function facilities, etc, and then as a "side thought", they need a DJ too.

It is a waste to buy a leads with this issue. They don't even know where the event will take place, so how can you, as a professional DJ, give them a fair price. You cannot.

2. Unrealisitc budget numbers.

This is another site that simply thinks we will pay them $2.50 per lead just to get that precious information. They couldn't be more wrong.

They are not sending useful information to us right now. Until they do, my suggestion os to say "No" when they send you an email (as I have for the last 15 leads I have received from them)

Here's an interesting perspective.

If the materials and content on a web site are clearly marked as proprietary and may not be used or duplicated in any manner without the expressed written consent of the owner and yet, without such authorization, and they have duplicated at least the index page, are they not inviting a legal wake-up call of potential copyright infringements?

Somehow I don't think anyone will complain since they're getting free advertising.

I've had several prospects say they saw the Eventective site, then they "googled" my name and found my regular web site.

How can that be bad?

and, like Jim Casey (above)....I've just said "NO" to all of their spammy leads.

(If someone is SMART enough, they will FIND me thru normal channels. Anyone who cannot figure out how to "Google" is too stupid to be a DJMC customer anyway!)

And what "if" a competitor decides to "rate you", give you a bad rap, and their cousin, along with Mom and the next door neighbor too. Good luck fighting that (as we have seen on many a negative Nazi's posts...I mean Knotties).

Is one sure they are willing to roll the dice with their reputations, being totally out of their control, for a few worthless tire kickers? I decide who, what, when, and where my ads go.
