So Joe wants more activity around here, here's a new thread.

I rarely see anyone ever mention or discuss Chartbusters. I've sang some of their Karaoke songs and I think their quality is very good. I will buy a Soundchoice collection some day when I'm established and money is coming in or if I find a KJ going out of business willing to sell a SC collection for cheap.

I'm new to Karaoke hosting, I've only hosted informally at a bar I used to frequent. Soon I'm going to go out and try to get a couple of nights around town.

I bought on ebay SGB, All Hits, Super Core and some misc discs, plus a couple of SCDG Pioneer discs with around 1500 songs. I'm considering buying the 6 SCGD Chartbusters collection off ebay which is around 3000 songs. I am also considering getting the entire Nutech collection which is also around 2500 songs. I found the Monster Hits collection for $450, but I can't afford that right now. I'd like to get the entire Legends collection, but they go for too much money.

There is a program from KJamp that will allow me to convert and copy all of the SCDG disks to CD+G. I run completely off computer, my discs are pristine and are just sitting in a box collecting dust since ripping them with audiograbber.
 
Funny thing about Nutech. I bought a few of them in the early days of CDG for a pizza house I was hosting at 3 times per week and I enjoyed the quality and reproduction presented on them. Fast forward to recent times and have heard nothing but bad about them. I find the odd song in most any brand that doesnt work for me when singing but overall most of them work better than nothing. Hell I even enjoy some of the SGB versions and stand proudly with the Supercore sets. Sound Choice is the Lamborghinin that doesnt make replacement parts in the Karaoke industry and much larger collection however some of those songs will be played if at all once to be never sang again. I like the virtual order idea as you can then pull the songs you think will work or that have been requested. I can order them right at my show with portable on the go internet access.
 
Hence the huge draw for me to AutOKdj.... sorry Wiz you knew it would come up....

Point is like Jon said the ability to purchase song by song versus a CD full of songs that may never see the light of a karaoke stage for that one song is a by-gone way of adding music to a library.

With an active internet connection and AutOKdj which contains a Tricerasoft store front I can not only search for a requested song that I don't have I can buy it and have it ready for the very next rotation. All without having to crack open my browser and if I just so happen to have a particular song in my library when I'm just looking for music to add I wont mistakenly buy a song I already have because it looks at my library during the search.
 
Well I can get the full Chartbusters collection, 6 SCDG dics with 450 songs each for around $150. I figure it's a great way to increase my selection for very little money.

I'm going to buy a 100 song pack from Tricerasoft for $100 to get some songs I want that I haven't found elsewhere and so I can get exactly the songs I want, also so I can download requested songs one at a time.

The entire Nutech collection is only about $100 for around 2500 songs and even if the quality is't the greatest, it's still worth it IMO.

I'm going to join the Soundchoice "club" or whatever it's called and you get one custom CD compilation disc and one disc of my choice for $25 and then buy a few Soundchoice discs here and there. If Soundchoice wasn't so damn expensive I'd buy a lot more of their stuff, it's top notch as far as I'm concerned.
 
For sound choice surf ebay... you can usually run across some good deals at about $10/disc. If the seller is willing ask for combined shipping otherwise you may be hit for around $5 per disc on average for shipping. Also there is a Ebay storefront where you can get the bricks for I think $89 and Foundation II for $280 something...

Definately invest in the $100 GC from Tricerasoft as I understand that makes every song bought using it only 99 cents each... that's a great deal considering the brands you can get from them now.
 
I listened to a bunch of the Tricerasoft songs and they have a bunch of really good versions. They have Zoom and other good brands. A dollar per song is kind of high, but for a hundred dollars I get 100 songs that I really want instead of 8-10 discs with 8-15 songs I want. If Soundchoice had downloads for 100 songs for $100 dollars I would do that. Their compilation discs run like $2.50 per song I think.

.99 cents a CDG track is cheap.... you pointed out SC their price is actual closer to $4.00/track

If you are able to get the max on a CDG at 15 songs your looking at $60.00 plus tax plus shipping.... ya Tricerasoft has them beat 3 ways to Sunday.
 
JW, dude, I don't mind you talking about or promoting AutoKdj. If you've found something that works for you that's F'n fantastic. When I settle on something and commit to it I'll be overjoyed. I tried autokdj for a while and it seemed to work ok on my XP computer, but like several other programs I've tried, it didn't work for me on my new Vista laptop. I really don't like winamp at all. I've looked at other winamp based programs and IMO winamp is garbage.

I just took a quick look at Roxbox again because I read that it had some improved features. I downloaded it, installed it and it wouldn't even install properly on my XP computer. When I saw that it was based on winamp I quit trying to make it work and just deleted it.

I've used Karafun over and over and over and over again on two computers with zero problems. It does what I want, key change and tempo adjustment. Beyond that all I want is a stable program that doesn't crash and that doesn't crash my computer. Karafun runs perfectly on my Vista machine, no problems at all, it's simple to operate too.

I tried a program called Virtual DJ Studio that would have been perfect for both Karaoke hosting and DJing. Only one problem, it didn't work on my Vista laptop. Too bad too, it only costs $40.

I bought PCDJ Blue when I first started out. I got it off amazon.com and the version had some sort of copy protection that made it difficult to install. I finally went to the PCDJ offices in Clearwater which is not far from where I live. They installed it onto my 1st laptop, my Toshiba. It was quirky and the database was very finikey. I had to fool around with the music library to get it to work. It wasn't the easiest program to learn either. Finally I gave that laptop to my daughter and when I got my new Dell I tried to install PCDJ with the KJ plugin and again it wouldn't install properly. I tried their tech support and after a couple of times they just gave up and stopped responding to my emails, so I'm done with PCDJ, their technical support sucks. Money down the drain unless I decide I want to spend a half day, drive over to their offices again and have them install it on my new laptop. What if I lived in Nebraska? What would I do?

I would buy the new Siglos Professional hosting program from Powerkaroke for $100 in a heartbeat if it had tempo adjustment, but it doesn't have it.

I'm hesitant to spend over $100 on a Karaoke program. That just seems to be my psychological price point. Karafun is $99 Euros which is about $150 and I may need to buy it soon anyways. I need to check out Compuhost before I shell out that kind of money though. I've read many good things about Compuhost on the Karaoke Scene bulletin board.

I will no way use CDs however. Not going to do it even if I have to spend $200 to get the right Karoke program for me. I would rather do that than swap CDs in and out on every song, that's not going to happen. Been there, done that. In a couple more years there will be very few people still using CDs for DJing or for Karaoke. The majority will be using computers or some specialty device. CDs are dead. People cling to old familiar ways of doing things and some folks just hate change. I'm not one of them. Even if change has some bumps in the road and requires a bit of extra effort to refine and perfect, it's worth it.
 
Thanks for the thread, Wiz.... Actually, Charbuster has a very good rep for quality ( and considered by most to be #1 in the country genre) at a good price.

Your SuperCore set will do you wonders as you progress. A LOT of very popular songs from virtually all genres. Zoom's great too.


The original Nutechs were never (IMHO) too good. However, about 2 years ago I picked up the full Sav-A ( country) set and Sav-p (pop) set. Kind of OK, and with some titles not easily found elswhere. Considering the cost ( very little) I would consider them worth it. I DO usually check and see if I have a requested title from that set by another mfr. before using, though.
 
To each their own I guess... I don't understand all the problems you have with winamp... I've been running winamp in one configuration or another for over 5 years now and have never.... I repeat never had as many issues as you have had.... no offense but that leads me to operator error or just plain bad luck I guess.

If you're going to go with a product that is non-winamp.... even though you don't want to spend more than $100 I would still steer towards something like MTU hoster or Compuhost even tho I dispise both they are a hell of a lot better choices over Karafun.

Ok, so what's wrong with Karafun? As I said, I've used it at home over and over and over with no problems. It's a well written and well designed program that does a lot. This IS interesting.
 
It's lacking in everything that makes AutOKdj a great program for hosting shows... rotation, rotation, rotation. I typed that three times because for me that is the most important function of a CPS karaoke solution if it can't do an automated rotation and maintain it in the way I need it to with little to no intervention from me then the program is worthless to me.

Sure all of the programs I've mentioned and you've mentioned do a rotation of sorts none of them are nearly as sophisticated as what can be achieved through AutOkdj... but, if you have problems with winamp and can't get it to work then even AutOKdj is worthless....

I understand that your goal is not to be a professional KJ but a professional singer and that's great then almost any CPS karaoke solution would do....

That's why I've stopped trying to convince you the err of your ways... LOL

If you find something that works for you be it CPS based or CD based then that's what you need to do.

As for the music you purchase you may also want to look at Backstage, Karaoke Hits and KJ Tools.... beware that you will see a lot of duplication between Karaoke Hits and KJ Tools and in fact I believe they are manufactured by the same company or at least they use the same studio musicians and graphics programs at least. They are too similar.
 
I've seen how most KJs handle rotation and it's so simple to do manually that it's not a concern for me. It's very easy to put slips in a row using paper clips, push pins or any one of many ways. Handling the order of singers seems to be a simple task and one that doesn't need to be automated by the computer IMO. Karafun doesn't have any singer order or rotation management and it seems that this is your main complaint about it.

Since I'm not dealing with CDs-just the computer and the mixer-managing the rotation doesn't seem like it would be a problem.

One other thing I didn't like about autokdj. Because the program does so many things, it seemed very complicated. I like the elegance of simplicity. I found a very good DJ program recently that I fell in love with because it's so darn simple to use, that's why I like Karafun, SIMPLE, SIMPLE, SIMPLE. Winamp/autokdj does so much and has so many functions that it becomes complicated.

Tricerasoft has a very simple, free player. It's so simple to operate. Everything is visually clean and clear. Autokdj is heavily text oriented and I think it appeals more to a programmer/engineer/techie type of person. I also found the pacemaker plugin to be a bit unstable. When I start doing this in front of people, for money, stability is the number one priority and criterion. Absolutely no toleration for wonkiness and wonkiness is what I experienced with winamp and autokdj.

I have a couple of great media player programs that I've settled on that I wish would incorporate Karaoke. Both are rock solid stable. No wonkiness at all. Both have very good sound quality. Both handle playlists easily. Both are simple to operate, SIMPLE, SIMPLE, SIMPLE. Both have plenty of good features and do everything I want. Neither one crashes, EVER. Both handle crossfading effortlessly. Both are free. Both make DJing easy and trouble free.
 
But, you see that is the difference between me and you... I desire a complete CPS solution... I don't want to waste my time keeping track of singers manually... why even bother with a CPS solution if your not going to use it.

I see many hosts as you've mentioned using computers for their shows yet they insist on using paper and notebooks to maintain and control their line-ups many of them are using programs such as S&D for the most part some are using Roxbox and few use MTU hoster.... all of these programs have a rotation feature albiet they are limited in what they do so that may be why they still insist on pen and paper rotations....

I'm not trying to convince you one way or the other as I've said what works for you works for you..... for me however I started out on this venture initially just looking for some thing to take the pen and paper away and found a program that does that and much, much more....

But, I'm not here to debate what is the best program for you to use... only you can decide that. What I'm trying to convey to KJs is there is no reason to maintain a rotation on paper or even the need for slips of paper cluttering up your stand.... you don't need to be scared to let a computer do the mundane while you attend to the audience.

This is a hard concept for individual KJs to grasp because they are so entrenched in the pen and paper camp.

This is an extremely archaic method that it makes me laugh when I go out and see computer based KJs still relying on it instead of their program that was designed to handle it for them.
 
Here I am talking about not using CDs because they are the old fashioned way of doing things, but I'm ok using little slips of paper to manage the rotation, go figure. I guess it goes back to my recurrent theme of simplicity.

If I found autokdj to be a great program I would be using it. You can't beat the price. I don't use it even for free, what does that tell you? I'm someone who looks for good deals. I won't use autokdj for free. If it was based on a better program than winamp it would probably work better, be more stable and I would probably use it.

I'll be so happy when my search is over and I've found the one true love of my Karaoke life. Until then my search for the right Karaoke software will continue. I may just get the Siglos Professional hosting program and just use it for hosting and DJing. I'll keep looking for a program that has tempo and pitch adjustment for my singing show. This thread has actually been very helpful to me.
 
As for a program that is good at pitch and tempo control I don't think you'll find any that is very good at it... even I don't like Pacemaker and generally discourage folks from asking for pitch changes simply because it doesn't work as well as people would like it to.... for example if you try to adjust tempo or pitch by more than 2 the audio becomes unstable at best. This has been my experience with all so called keychangers that are software based.... best to leave it to the CDG player if that is your need at this point.
