The last part first: Many PC based shows do not have the capability to play discs AND mix them properly. These are the completely PC based shows I was referring to. Some can play discs, but their virtual mixer has no effect on player output, so they can't mix sound. If you are only using a video switcher, and don't have an actual mixer, you would be in this situation.

If you CAN play and mix, I guess the problem of version listing MAY be reduced. However, in my case, the singers are very version concious.

Actually Joe you're not completely correct on this. Up until I started having problems with my EMU-1820 I could input up to 4 additional sources including Phono into the dock and mix sound on my virtual mixer just like any other standard mixer... plus I had all kinds of effects that I could add to the music... I will be getting a new one soon. As I really like the vocal effects that are available to it.

Don't believe me checkout www.emu.com and look for the EMU-1616m that is what I will be getting again. (Once I have my second Bose system) ;)

As for the rest: To repeat, ANY digital source can be hacked. As for the rest, I have learned in another thread that both Sound Choice and Stellar seem to see it the same way I do, and will no longer offer didtal releases. I defer to their expertise and experience in the business.....

Well it might be true that any digital source that is online can be hacked... the reasons for Sound Choice and Steller not offering their stuff digitally like on Tricerasoft is due to old fashioned and short sighted thinking....

Plain and simple they are clutching to the old distribution sources but as you can tell from the lack of production these days from both camps that they are holding on to something that is going by way of the dogs.

Eventually they will have to start producing again and looking at the more lucrative distribution methods of online downloads. The Brick n Mortor method is slowly dwindling to a very small few outlets.... wanna see proof of that goto any Wal-mart or heck just about any music store and compair their music selection to their karaoke selection. From the big box stores down to the small mom and pops... karaoke just doesn't sell well in disc format any more.

1) Not incorrect, but badly phrased. I only meant that I have run into a lot of PC shows that COULDN'T mix from a disc they way they were set up. Hell, even I can mix from a disc on my laptop ( when I absolutely have to :sqwink:)

2) Don't see it that way. First, they are not clutching the brick and mortar retail method. A good portion of their sales are from online sources.

It's not good business to sell a product that can be more easily procured for free illegally. It's also bad business to put your brand on something for which you have absolutely no quality control. Think about it. A KJ plays a track that's been through it's fifth processing/download and someone asks what version it is. The KJ says, say, SC- and it sounds like crap. It would be like sending in a bad KJ to cover you under YOUR company name. There just is no QC for digital downloads. The guide is only how good the person and equipment and transmission media is for each upload AND each download.

3) I hear that a lot. However, at least as far as Karaoke discs, my research doesn't show it. As far as I know, no top brand names have converted to strictly MP3, and continue to produce discs, with some increasing disc output. As more and more companies consider the above points ( after losing their hat and a** on MP3s), I think you will also see a huge reversion to hard media. Possibly discs, or maybe something actually BETTER.....

....or not. I've heard rumors of Read Only MP3 chips, that supposedly can't be downloaded, just plugged in and used like those toy mics. The hold back here is songs per chip would be quite limited at this point- and MP3. I have a feeling that a new laser type media might be in the offing.

Now come on you and I both know that this is the same BS crap that SC has been spewing for years now.... they ARE clinging to an antiquated method of sale.... sure they sell discs online.... but, there is much much more money to be made from downloads.

Please stop eating the poop SC is feeding us....

Only if you stop spreading the poop that the "digital revolution" espouses.

Seriously: 1) NO ONE claims MP3s are better. The only selling point is convenience.

2) As previously reported, NO producer has gone completely digital

3) The largest producers are BACKING AWAY from digital

4) Digital MAY be more profitable if only the easy hack can be prevented- and it can't. The producers are losing more than ever on digital, which is why more and more are backing off.

Rob, this isn't my usual MP3 hit. This is about running a profitable business. Digital is just to easily pirated, and there is NO QC. that's absolute fact. Bad business.

As far as karaoke is concerned, NO ONE is losing money on discs, and again, NO ONE is considering going strictly digital.

What IS happening is that they are looking to come up with an improved hard media- also fact.

I believe that by this time next year, NONE of the major brands will be releasing digitally. Also, if they are smart, the straight DJ brands will be cutting back soon as well......
