hey steve, I have been looking more into the Odyssey CSL2802. does that thing really weigh over 50#???? empty??? good lord, fill it up, and no one can lift the dang thing!!!

I noticed that in the shipping weight as well, Scottie, but I believe that BOTH the CSL28, and CSL2802 have the same shipping weight, so I tend to think it can't be very accurate.

If you can wait until after the weekend, I'll see about getting it weighed.

Are any of the laptop DJ's using a docking station in their system?

All wiring stays connected to the docking station and the laptop simply clips in and out as needed.

No docking station, but my laptop stays and travels in my case, so it doesn't get the wear and tear I'd get with a stand, and it hooks up in seconds.

Scottie:

If you haven't seen it yet, I've got pics and a description of how I've configured my new mobile, laptop system (using the Odyssey CSL28) here:

And yes, I think the CSL2802 is up for sale, if you or someone you know is interested in a great deal on one.

Scottie, what??? You should know real djs don't use laptops

Kyle

Sure some do!!! I dont, i use a desktop, that has been built into my custom, roll in cabinet... however 3 or 4 of my guys have discovered laptops sure make the job a lot easier.... and I cant argue there.

However, I dont want the laptop on the banquet table... too easy to sit down in front of. :sqmad:

Hey Steve, thanks for those pictures... Ive got a couple of questions.

Do you feel that your gear is protected with that cover? why didnt you go with the models with the hard cover?

if you can easily reach your laptop keyboard why do you have the smaller one?

Thanks

Scott the top of the gear case is padded, plus the laplid itself offers protection....I wouldn't put anything to heavy on top.....I strap it on a cart...so it's fine for me. The back is open (there are no rear rack rails...I took a piece of sign board (black), cut it to size and velcro'ed it in....That way no wires fall out and you can run a cord out easily...

I had a Gator 10x6 slant case.....It was simply to big and awkward to carry...try and fit it in that back of a car! The 8x4 wasn't much smaller and is expensive...this case cost $115 at L & M....all told it weighs about 30 lbs loaded and will fit in any car....

The smaller keyboard will likely go......I didn't realize that the laptop would be as close as it is....

I use a Gator 10x6 and I have the same mixer and basically the same setup. I was using an 8x4 but I found that my UPS would't fit in it (depth). I found the Gator wasn't a whole lot bigger but also I can fit my mixer and laptop on the slant section without a rack shelf. I just cut a piece of plywood to cover the opening and that's where my laptop sits on it's cooling pad. It's still a work in progress but so far I like it this way. I also made a flip out shelf for my trackball.

Steve and Young... great info... heck, I never thought if just placing the laptop on the upper section of the case. The only thing that will be mounted on the top would be a 4U mixer.... that should leave plenty of space.

Under, on the upright rails, Im wanting to go with a 1U power conditioner, and a 2U amp.

Would you ever consider mounting an amp within your case... adding a fair amount of weight??? the pros for us would be that it would already be hooked up, and easy for my guys to set up at a event.
the cons.... heavy case!!!!

Thanks for the input.. .this board ROCKS!

Actually Young...on the subject of a ups; there is one tucked underneath in the back, velcro'ed to the bottom.

The only downside is that I could not figure a way to put the light controller back in....need that 2u back. So now I just carry it separately...set up is quick....To have to do this pales in comparison to lifting and lugging that large, awkward 10x6 Gator...

In the photos you'll see a Gator 6u rack case. Inside of this is my ceremony/back up set up. I have a Furman in there; a Yamaha MG8 mixer, Carvin wireless mic.....My back up laptop sits on top.....I always set that rack up with my main show.....With ceremonies.....haul out that case with a laptop...and bring it back in....
