True BS, I heard that story too, If you know anything about Marcia Griffiths you’d know it is false. Marcia is a reggae singer & remember playing it as early as 1986. I believe the song it was written by one of the Wailers back in the 1970s. Therefore is very highly unlikely back then a Jamaican...

I do only private & college events where I have nothing to do with promotion. I have had 1 or 2 colleges try do some cash promotions, the students just come for that & leave. Usually they aren’t invested in being involved except for the prize.

RIP I’ve known Johnny for years, I’d always see him at events & conferences

Since I am in the college market ages 18 - 21, I do have to have very current music. I do this by using music lists, requests from the client beforehand, taking requests at the event and my son giving me input. What’s absolutely hilarious is as long as I have to current music they mainly ask for...

Yes, karaoke events are 2 hrs after that it is additional. Besides who the hell wants to hear karaoke for 4 hrs. I’ve done plenty of private parties like this. My first booking from my website on AOL back in the 90s was a karaoke party like this. I stopped doing the combo DJ/karaoke events as...

Yes, a lot has changed since Covid. I will likely still go to AES since it is only 1 day & happens with NAB. And my wife & daughter work in NYC. I’m overdue for a trip to CA so NAMM is a good excuse. January I have CES but I have to fly right back with my son & take him up to Boston. I’m...

I was at the AES & NAB shows in NYC. The AES show used to be large by now it’s tiny. I did run into Jim from DJ Times/DJ Expo and Keith Shocklee for the Bomb Squad one of the people behind Public enemy. We are both from the same town & we both started around the same time. RCF & Meyer were the...

That is karaoke. So you can put text on the screen using VDJ. Now syncing it to the music IDK. Regular People create their own tracks with the lyrics all the time. I don’t know how to do that, asking in a good general forum may give you a better answer on exactly how to do it.

You can watch this podcast I did at the Harvest of Sound Conference. They asked me the same question & I brought them back to how I started in 1972 & progressed forward View: https://youtu.be/Mq5ECl2bVQs?si=LxPqoyef9AIGGfZm

I just realized were you on Long Island? I remember you saying on the East coast but I can’t remember was i here or NJ. The pay here sucks for karaoke with some just getting $100 to $150 for bars & restaurants, less than what what they pay DJs. Why I only do karaoke at college & private events.

Well, most don’t consider computer as an important part of the business. Many don’t even have a backup computer or a plan. But this isn’t only DJs & KJs but businesses in general. I worked as an Intel Rep for 12 years & the stuff I’ve seen. Not only no backup computer, no plan but no backup of...

Each of these speakers are in different levels. You’ve got a basic beginner, DJ level &. Professional level with their associated cost. The difference between in specs between the the Harbinger & RCF is massive, 7 db difference, wow. Now I’ve heard the EV & RCF in the same room up at the harvest...

You got to check both Amazon & eBay. I purchase from both. I brought covers for my speakers. 2 came from Amazon & 2 from eBay I believe 3 different vendors in all. Amazon gives money back on the Credit Card & for taking slower shipping. eBay gives it on the credit but some sellers offers...

I actually started way before Mobile Beat, before Dance Music Report. My first trade mag was Billboard & a couple other Disco Mags which out in the 1970s. I’m going into my 48th year. I deal with a lot of older staff & people so especially when networking a good card starts a conversation &...

It’s actually a 2 sided & folded and glossy on the outside so that makes it a little some complicated. I’ll get to work on selecting another vendor after my busy season. But in retrospect, running out of business cards is a good thing that meant you gave them all out. I’ve got a crap load of...
