Those of you saying you only need 1,000 songs to play a show.....

Obviously don't work in bars very often...
My diverse music library continues to separate me from the masses.

I do not go out expecting to play "only hits" I encourage people to dig a little
deeper in there minds. I like the occasional "B" side track.

If i was stuck playing just the "hits" i might as well go home and turn the juke box back on.

If you know your club and it's niche you can still dig deep and don't need an unusual amount of music.

I played clubs for years. Many of the clubs had their own base music library, and those that didn't headlined the DJ - allowing us to refelct the style of the club.

Some clubs I'd only come in with a dozen or so of my own unique 12"s - and those without a library I would bring about 300 max.

Just like anything else it all depends on what you like. I am still CD based and I also use a Cortex. I have 19,645 100% legal paid for songs cataloged (Updated weekly). When I first Started mobile DJing in 1990 I started with all cd's. I also have a $50,000 Music/Equipment insurance policy. I figure I easily have $30,000 worth of CD's, $6,000 worth of speakers, $4,000 in my rig, another $1500 in my #2 rig, and $1,000 in my small rig. Another $1000 for cd cases, hard drives, etc. I can easily say I have over $40000 invested in my business. I also carry $2,000,000 in liability insurance. There are some guys who buy $500 lap tops, $100 DJ Program, 8000 pirated songs and charge 1/3 or less than what I do....So be it...You get what you pay for :)
