Is everyone for real? I have been involved with this skit for yrs. In fact it has been several since the last time It was done at one of my events. It really isnt close to a new thing.

...how many times have we gotten a request for a "questionable" song for a father/daughter mother/son dance...
and had to call the b/g and tell them their mother/son song talks about " making love to you..."

The bit was way over done at weddings in the early and mid 90's, then dropped out for a long time it seems to be coming back (I just don't know why) Is the Top Gun movie being played on TV now every Friday night? I am starting to see it done on a regular basis by the "hip" college guys to a few ladies (at Karaoke), thank God I haven't had the bit requested for a wedding in a few years!

No, the worst to me was *Total Eclipse of the Heart* by the Dan Band..Lots of F** in it...You've lost is a piece of cake...

That is one of the most refreshing f@#$ing acts I've seen in a long time. I would love to see them live and I'd love to use that song his way at any wedding.I was doing a 30th birthday party and a group of guys asked if I had it. I was able to stream the video and play the audio off of youtube. What a hit.

Nextgen knows! It's an 80's fly-buy thing, "Top Gun" came out in the 80's and Tom Cruise , et. al. do a similar thing in a bar.
I would be shocked that anybody that puts that song as a must play doesn't know some of the words....or cares....the name of the song is "you've lost that lovin' feeling", for god's sake. What else could she think the song's lyrics are about?
It's not like Whitney Houston's "I will always love you" that some people might mistake the meaning and might be embarassed afterwards.
But thinking you should let someone know about the words in that song is like letting someone know that "runaround sue" isn't about a girl that jogs or that "baby got back" is really about the shape of a girl's butt.
I would be concerned that the client may feel that I think they are a complete idiot.
What would I do?
Play it and assume some guys are going to sing it around the bride and assume NO ONE will be suprised ....or shocked...by the words.

Where was this at? The jocks? I didn't think jocks had any choice...unless it was during the payola days of the late 1950s.

If I were a bride and some self righteous bible thumping DJ questioned my song choices I'd slap him upside his head and make sure the only DJing he was doing was Karaoke at the local Howard Johnsons. Of course I'm not a bride, only a bridesmaid and this is only my opinion.
Awww man now I have to dig.... it is something I had heard years ago.... may be complete bunk but it was said with such athority. I'm pretty sure I had heard this on one of those VH1 history programs.... maybe it wasn't the Righteous Brothers but I could have sworn it was them... I'll dig some more and see if I can dig it out.... it was a long time ago that I had heard this.
Well I had heard something to that tune Joke but dont recall where. Seems my father told me the story. I do know that Buddy Holly was invited to perform at the Apollo cause the promoters thought he was black.
I know I heard something about this too... I'm gonna have to do some digging or it will just drive me nutz... Might not have been the Righteous Brothers... but, it was certainly some one from that time frame.
You know I bet that was it.... I know for sure that Brothers was part of their name. I'll dig some and find out for sure.
