Since you have not been active in the DJ business you may not know. So I will excuse you. Building your own stuff based on using proven designs and PRO GRADE materials has been around forever. Lots of professionals design and build their own speaker systems. It is called Custom Designs.
One of my Midrange Voice Coils costs $119.99 plus shipping. Thats the Voice coil alone. The Tweeter and Midrange Boxes are the only two speakers that I build. Everything else that I have is from manufacturers stock even the Scoops (Those are JBL).
I can make cables myself because I have a background in Electronics and I am NASA certified in Cable harnessing, wiring & installation and soldering. I used to work for the Johnson Space Center and did wiring for the Space Shuttles Mission Control Consoles at JSC.
My system can leave many of these other store bought systems in the dust. That is why other DJs and bands hire me I guess.

Buy what you can with cash. Upgrade later with your profits if you continue with DJing.

Buying top end gear and going into debt is a horrible way to start a business.

Baby steps, take your time and with the right plan and a lot of hard work you'll get where you're going.
 
Crappy gear at the right price is still crappy gear!

Why waste money on crappy gear?
Spend the money on reliable stuff, if it is not enough to complete the system then rent the rest of the needed components!

If one wants first class rewards they need to put out first class efforts!:triwink:
One other thing: Why would anyone knowingly want to start a business knowing they are going to be wasting money from the start? That is a bad precedent. Do it right or don't do it at all.
 
"Inexpensive" gear does not always equate to "crappy" gear. I started with American Audio disc players, mixer, lower end Peavey speakers and they served me well for over 5 years before I sold them off and had absolutely no complaints from any clients. Added some used gear to the mix during that time with cash until our business could justify upgrading gear with cash profits from past events.

None of the "so-called" lower end product failed me once and performed well within the needs that we had at that time.

And I'm just giving my take on this and just because it doesn't fall into your narrow way of thinking doesn't mean I can't give an opposing point of view, no matter how valid.

Not everyone can be as perfect as you think you are. :D

Rick, that may have been the case in the past...BUT!

bought a Wharfedale powered sub a few years ago...
speaker blew after 3 gigs
sent it back for warranty repairs
took them 8 months to find the part
(they cant find their own parts in their own warehouse???)
they gave up, and sent me a BRAND NEW sub
(a newer model, too)
THAT one crapped out after 6 gigs.
got my money back and bought lights.

according to the dealer who sold it to me
the British company had been sold to an Asian company...
and their customer service went down the tubes.
They are not selling Wharfedale gear anymore.

I'm with Kirby on this one buy what you can afford but I'll add do your research before you buy. I started with a Nikko amp and turntables and CV speakers and although at the time I did go in debt it took about 6 months to pay it off. I still have that Nikko and CV gear 22 years later sitting around (I have upgraded since). It still works top notch


I kind of regret selling the Wharfs, not so much from a business standpoint, but they would have made real nice home speakers. I don't know much about the new ones out now but the ones I had 8 years ago worked well

I would suggest adding a sub to the mix if you are going that route it would help from a sound and power standpoint

SO!? as I stated in the begging of this post lol, I want to sound fairly decend
and make them all happy. So what would you suggest in reguards on Speakers.? prefer a 2 way 15. as Im lookin to run a Numark ICDMIX3 with them. I know nothing about DJ Gear. Im an Old Rock Show Lead Roadie that pointed and it was done. And did alot Pregiging Calls,Email, and a lot of driveing. Please post your suggestions. And I thank you all.
