Wireless mic FAIL

Although it may seem wise to buy the most expensive, newest batteries you can find, I buy the store-brand Costco or BJ's Wholesale Club batteries - at around $8 for 48 of them, there's no excuse for not putting fresh batteries in my microphone before every event. I don't need them to last a long time - just until the end of the event.

I used to put fresh batteries at every event but then started thinking I've got a mic that supposedly let's me know when to change batteries...according to the pamphlet I'm supposed to have a good cushion from when the light turns red to going dead...lesson learned

I dunno but I'm fairly certain my Sennheiser does power down. Have tried it with the ATs.
 
I know on my Audio-Technica 3000 series mics, that the receiver will auto-mute when the mic is either turned off or batteries removed. The transmitters send a signal that must be received for audio to be produced, so they stay quiet if a battery dies. They also transmit battery life to the receiver so even if the transmitter (handheld or bodypack) is away from you, you can see the battery level.
 
I generally replace after every two gigs. If the mics stay on (even using mute) I can get at least 8 hours from them, probably 12 or more, but since I replace after 2 gigs I do not know their total time. I prefer the following batteries: http://us.sanyo.com/eneloop

I always keep spare rechargeable batteries handy
plus I buy a 10 pack of Standard batteries for the wireless mic just in case
 
I only use my wireless for toasts, and the occasional speech.
So it takes me SEVERAL gigs to use just an hour of battery time.

I used to buy batteries from the Dollar Store, and get TWO 9-volts for a buck.
Use them for ONE gig, and throw them away.
(which is about all you'd get out of them)
