Which DJ Software is best for a Novice DJ?

Hello,

I am back in the business after 20 years. I am new to the computer DJ craze. Is there a DJ Software out there that is ideal for a novice and does not cost an arm and a leg?

Virtual DJ would get my vote. Very simple interface, no pre-loading or converting anything, and you can export the tracklist for each event.

My vote is for Rockit by the SoftJock Dude.....:yoapplause:

Depends on what you want to do, but I would go with Rockit unless you need something more "involved",,,,

My suggestion look around and download free trials and just find one that you feel comfortable with and then get it.

Serockito are my two choices. I use a Mac, if I was windows Rock it would be my choice.

I live virtual DJ. The problem is not playing on a deck. The issue starta when I mix from Deck a to Deck B. Now song only plays over 1 speaker? I am using Numark DJIO and 2 Pyle Pro Speakers. Please help.....

just try out Winamp and see how you start on something EASY!!!

I have played around with a couple on different peoples systems, so far I like Virtual DJ and E-Mix the best. I haven't used Rockit yet...but will look around for reviews etc...

yeah, thats for sure!!

software

having used PCDJ red 7 and red mobile, and tested otsAV, winamp, Itunes,VDJ, serato, and a couple others... i can tell you this, from a wedding dj's point of view, i want something that lets me find my music quickly, either with playlists or queues, and has back and forth browse buttons +/-
the best one i've found for everything that i want and need to do is Rockit as well...my humble opinion probably the best for a wedding dj...having said that...there are a few minor issues..depending on big your catalog, it may have some issues with the amount of songs you may have, i have a 60000+ catalog and most programs cant handle it. pcdj just didnt like that many songs.

if any of the programmers are reading this, it would be nice if you added a vertical scroll bar to any of the waitlist windows..and a Clear Search button in the search window. other than that, havent see too many issues to complain about, love the software.

In Rockit, you can turn the scroll bars on/off via the skin mapper, for any list. I have most skins turned off by default, because of size constraints. See the Advanced Skinning Reference, on how to manipulate the scroll bars in a list. I have a scroll wheel on all my mice, so no need for a scroll bar.

BTW, the next version of Rockit, has a full skin editor :)

As to the amount of tracks -- that's just Slo-Murphy's Law -- the more things you have to sort, search, etc. -- the longer it takes to do anything, and the more memory it eats.

That's the purpose of multiple libs in Rockit -- you use what you need for a given type of gig. Wedding lib, country bar lib, dance club lib, etc.

Makes things work much more robust :)

It's in the manual

Just downloaded and sampled ROCKIT....... I sense my pocketbook becoming lighter and Ricks getting heavier. I could look this up, but I'll ask here.... I have a 3 yr old Dell lappy that I would be running this on. Are there minimum requirements, or if I supply Rick with the requirements, can he let me know if it'll do ok?

I will tell you this. Having Rick on this board is a blessing, rarely will you have an author of DJ software available to answer questions like you do here. Also when he was developing this current version of his software he was.

Asking folks here what they would like to see and then he added it to his software. To me this stuff is Gold. I just thought I would through that out there and give him props.
