Domino's Embarrasses Every Single Fast-Food Chain in America

DOMINOS is the only Corporate chain that has recently posted BIG profitable gains. All of these fast food retailers are struggling, and finding themselves in sales slumps lately. Dominos came out with their $7.99 Large 3 topping pizza walk in deal, and have finally upped their game big time with their mobile app, and constant advertising has earned them a 13% quarterly increase in profits...which is GREAT compared to Sonic who is down .8%, or Mcdonalds who has posted negative earnings for every quarter this year. Also, their competitor Pizza Hut is down 2% in sales this quarter, and it's their third quarter of negative growth.

I can say that the advertising has worked with getting me to patronize them...I have visited Dominos 3 times in the last 2 to 3 months or so, and before that I hadn't gone to Dominos in probably over a year. I haven't visited Pizza Hut in nearly 2 years mainly because the last 2 times I went there I noticed their prices raised higher than I thought their food was worth (Their wings especially) and I have not returned.

What if a DJ did some spiffy advertising and came out with a cool "Mobile Booking App"....Would it grow sales and increase market place share compared to competitors? Should DJs pay attention and make the decision to try to be on the cutting edge of tech and marketing in the market place to stay a step ahead of the others?

There is no doubt that creative advertising can help in any industry, but I'm not sure a mobile booking app is the best way to turn the screws for a DJ. A pizza is often an impulse purchase, and something that is needed very quickly. Making it as convenient as possible to buy is critical in the delivery food business. If I'm considering calling a Chinese food restaurant versus Dominos and their app - they have smoked the alternatives by making it easier for me to do.

But, I would guess that very few DJs are losing bookings because the booking can't be done fast enough. As a DJ, we just need to get them to the decision of "is this the right choice" as quickly as possible.

True...Obviously for Weddings it's a thought out process when hiring a DJ

But what about for last minute events, even though they are sort of rare. I think of all the industries that have Mobile Apps now. ...Banking...I can check my balance in seconds. I can deposit a check through my phone. Which I do 95% of the time now. I have only visited my bank 3 times this year to deposit a check. I only did that because the checks had some sort of mark on them that the app won't accept...they have to be taken to the bank.

Car Insurance...The major companies have apps now. Health Insurance even has apps...

A Mobile DJ app could have a text messenger built in so they don't have to rely on Facebook. "Connect directly with your DJ in our app". The client could even sign their agreement in the app. Pay deposit and balances with credit cards whenever they are ready. They could listen to song suggestions in the app, and the app is directly linked with djeventplanner or something similar for online music suggestions. The app could link over to the songs available on Spotify. When they add a song to their list, or create their list, the DJ can log in and see it in the app.

The app could also be used for sending the DJ song requests via the app while out deejaying an event. I could think of many things a app could do that could be customizebale, and overall a value to both the DJ and the clients and their guests. ...I bet the app would get guests more involved, and certainly remember the DJ as the DJ's name and company info would be all over the app.

...This is certainly something I would be willing to use in the future. Millennials are all about using Apps.

I see little no value in having a DJ mobile app that will handle the booking process. It's a nice idea but not realistic in terms of what it will produce. Now what will produce is having a mobile-friendly website. That part is a must-have these days and there are lots of site builders which support mobile. I've personally used and can recommend both Wix.com and SquareSpace.com. Roughly 40%-50% of my traffic comes from mobile these days. That's a huge chunk to ignore.

First of all, realize that Domino's is doing better than the fast food franchises because they are NOT a restaurant.
That means they are avoiding all kinds of overhead, taxes, fees, insurance and hassles meeting code.
I'm sure their new deal has a part in their success, but it goes much farther than that.
Remember their previous ad campaign about changing the name to (just) Domino's?
But I don't think the same advertising concepts will work for a DJ business.
Because no matter how great the advertising, no matter how awesome the deal is...
it doesn't matter if you simply do not like the taste of their pizza.

Look at the SquareSpace analytics, I'm seeing the following platforms;

Desktop - 54.32%
Mobile - 45.68%

These numbers are staying pretty consistent, from month to month. On referrals, I've eased back on my facebook ads, so those are coming in lower for the past few weeks. I've also been fighting on my google placement, which has fallen back about 5 positions.

a friend owned a pizza shop - he said that entire market is coupon driven. Customers go where this week's coupon is best.

So low price wins...pizza is pizza!

Is that the way we want to be?
Not saying it's good or bad - a large segment of shoppers have been trained to buy this way.

I'm told school dances work that way - haven't had time to try it out - just raise prices and give a coupon...so i hear.

Pizza is Pizza is certainly true for chains .. We have no chains near me, so all Pizza is locally owned and far better than Dominos (I used to work for Dominos back in my college days).

Blasphemy. That's blasphemy I tell you. :D It probably works that way in good portion of America but you couldn't get most self-respecting NY/NJ/CT folks to eat from a chain pizza place. I will once in a while if I'm meeting people and they picked the place or something like that but never of my own accord.

I was amazed when I visited Florida. At the time my friends only had Domino's and Pizza Hut locally. The friends I was staying with were from New York and I couldn't believe they called that pizza. I told them it must be something in the water they've already brainwashed you. :D Next time I visited a couple years later there a couple of Mom & Pop pizza parlors and they were whole lot better than chain junk.

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread. :)

We have within a 10 minute drive...and I'm RURAL remember..

Tusca's Pizza, B&W pizza - family owned places, only one location.
Pizza Hut, Papa John's, Fox's (chain), Dominoes, Pizza Joe's (chain), Vic's Oven (told it's the best), Mario's Wood Fired Pizza, Vocelli (chain), Pizza Roma, Little Caesers, JR, D&G, Antony's and Dad's. PLUS a few restaurants that do pizza along with italian food.

That's 15 pizza joints..and I may have missed one or two.

None really impress me.

IN that same radius you get 5 subways, 2 McDonalds, 2 Wendy's, 1 burger king, 1 taco bell and 1 starbucks.

Same here the best ones are all local...Actually most here are local. We used to have a Pizza Delight but that closed there is a Boston Pizza and an East Side Mario's and there is a Greco which I will order from occasionally because they have an extra extra large pizza but for the most part it's local places that are much better

I have eaten at Dominos and Papa Johns and they were very corporate but not bad pizza

There are more than 30 pizza joints within a 2 mile drive of my house. If I go to add in places in Baltimore, and other suburbs within a 15 minute drive I'd probably have over 100 different places. Mostly all Carry Out.

Pizza Johns is considered one of the top places in the area. If you ask who has the best pizza in the area, most will say Pizza Johns. Pizza Johns

There are a lot of carry out places that have Good Pizza as well in the area. Tonys is one down the street from me.
