What version of "I'm a believer " do you mostly play?

I have 3 versions :

Smashmouth - Im a believer [from Shrek]
Monkees - Im a believer
Neil Diamond - Im a believer

I play all 3 of the above from time to time...But the one i play most of the time wether its a 21st or a wedding is Neil Diamonds.I find it always works well .If you haven't got his version ,get it, try it out. Incidentally he wrote the song too.
 
It all depends on the crowd for us and it's between the Smashmouth and Monkees versions. I never even knew that Neil Diamond did it too...not that I would ever consider playing his version.

Neil Diamond wrote the song, but the Monkees had the biggest hit version of it.

If I'm playing for an adult crowd, I play The Monkees.

If it's requested by anyone under the age of 30, or by anyone who asks me to play "The Shrek Song", I play the Smash Mouth version.

I'd never consider playing a Neil Diamond recording of the song... it wasn't the hit version.

Yes it wasn't the hit version ,you're right. And just like you for years & years i always played the Monkees version until one day i happened on Neil Diamonds version & found the crowd reaction was very much better, at all my events ,because it has a better uptempo flow & feel to it.The recording i use is a mono studio version off his boxset. Give it a whirl & see for yourself.
 
I have played all 3 versions in the past. neil Diamond also did a reggae version that is nice too. It's on his September Morn cd. Overall I use the smashmouth version most for events that have kids there.

haven't played either version in AGES!
Although I have no favorite version...I like all three...each has it's place.
