What speaker tops did you buy and why?

What I stated besides the wireless mics is what the performers use if there's a performer. Now what I have found is that when there's a featured artist that brings a big crowd.

So for a few hundred bucks you preform and supply sound for the others? Is the featured performer a live musician or DJ?

Again let me say that I don't know if there will be anyone besides the 3 of us will be performing. Last year it was just us 3 if I remember correctly. I haven't seen a flyer about the event other than the post I made on Facebook.

Do you even know if the event is really going to happen?

Most “featured” artists have a rider that includes equipment requirements. It’s part of their contract with the event. I’ve done many many of these

Apparently this featured artist has low standards a couple of K12s and a controller. If it's a band we will be reading about him getting the K12s repaired next week

After complaining about having too many speakers, I ordered a second Everse 8 yesterday.

The battery powered flexibility is really powerful for me. I've got a historic manor wedding coming up in September and the ease of not having to bring a battery in addition to the speaker itself is too attractive.

+1

I’m so confused about how you can even book this event without knowing the details,
Are there singers? Do they have a band or do they use backing tracks?? Do you have the backing tracks ahead of time to make sure they are compatible with your software? If it’s a band do you have the proper equipment to provide audio support for them, mixing board with enough hook ups, proper mics? k12’s aren’t great at projecting sound at an outdoor event? Do they provide a cover in case of rain or do you supply that??
So many questions it seems like you are going in blind with no clue of what will be happening, and no concern of trying to learn so you can be prepared

Don't forget gas for the generator and your effects machine.

Wrong. It's about knowing what to do with what you're using. I understand your point. A DJ that doesn't know any better will want the tops to be screaming to carry the sound and impress the crowd. That's what a inexperienced DJ does thinking the louder the sound the better. Trust me I know what others are thinking on here and that's not enough speakers for this event. Things will be just fine. We've never had a issue with speakers being damaged at this event. Last year we used the 2 tops and 1 Yorkville 801P subs. The sound was spot on! Keep in mind the tops are QSC K12.2 speakers and not a pair of Mackie Thumps or Bahringer speakers.

When I did the 4th of July picnic I used just the two tops in Eastside Park in Paterson, NJ and they did the trick! Could have used a sub but didn't because it wasn't necessary.

We will be on a stage, so no worries about if it rains. Also I said those speakers will do the trick. They did it last year. I understand you would supply more sound than that if you were doing the event. Again for the amount we're being paid, this is what the event will get. No band will be performing at the event. If anything they will will have a flash drive to play the music for their performance.

Tunes4046 you're thinking of this event is where the organizer is spending a ton of money to have this event. My best friends wife works at City Hall and told me that the city has money set aside for this event. I don't know how much that is and nor is it our business. Our business is to bring the gear to do the event with, perform at the event and when it's over pack up the gear and leave the park to unload the van when we get where we're going.

This is also the same event that every year has some sort of drama, that you could have easily avoided with proper pre planning

Oh I forgot one more thing. We are not supplying the generators. That's for him to take care of that. If we were to supply the generators the price would be a lot more than what we're getting paid.

How can I forget about the drama!? He'll start another thread for the report.

The speaker inventory part of this is fun. And it makes me feel better that I'm not the only one with way too much stuff hanging around.

Current main system:

2 RCF NXL14A Tops
2 RCF SUB 18 AX Subs

2 RCF J8 Column Arrays - for small gigs or hand-carry situations where I can't practically get my other subs in.

2 Bose L1 Compact column arrays (I own 4, but 2 of them are no longer in quality shape to take out) - For ceremonies, cocktail hours, or fill speakers

1 EV Evolve 8 - Used for cocktails or ceremony where I don't have access to power, or need the speaker up higher

2 Pioneer XPRS-12 Tops - I'm convinced these were incredibly underrated speakers. They sound super crisp, very powerful. The downside is the weight - they're heavy for a 12" top. But I only take them out in situations where I'm not allowed to use a sub for some reason or need a monitor.

2 RCF Evox-12 - I need to sell these, I've just been lazy about it.
Those Pioneer tops use PowerSoft amps. I've never heard them and no one around me has them.

Correct. And they must not have sold very well cause the next iteration of them was a very much cheaper speaker that didn't sound nearly as good.

But I have heard those Pioneers AB tested against QSC and RCF speakers and I think it sounded better than both.

So… when I closed up my DJ business and moved to Texas, the only speakers I kept were my three RCF EXOX 8’s, and two Alto TX8’s I used for booth monitors. When my HOA needed a PA system, I used one RCF EVOX 8 inside the clubhouse, and one Alto TX8 on the patio outside. That combination was easily sufficient, and made me realize the two Alto TX8’s could handle anything the HOA ever needs inside the clubhouse, so I decided to donate them to the HOA. However, that leaves me with only three BIG speakers. If I ever do anything local, I need a couple of nice 8 to 10 inch speakers. I don’t want to spend too much, because I won’t likely use them much. Any suggestions?

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING!? Last year there was no drama
But a wise DJ would take a look at the fuel gauge and make sure they werent gonna run out
WRONG! IT'S NOT OUR RESPONSIBILITY NOR WERE WE ASKED TO DO ANYTHING WITH REGARDS TO THE GENERATORS. OUR RESPONSIBILITY IS TO SUPPLY THE GEAR FOR THE EVENT, PLAY MUSIC FOR THE EVENT AND ANYONE WHO IS TO PERFORM AT THE EVENT, ASSIT THEM. THAT'S IT PERIOD.
