Aside from live mixing and cue points, are you pre-editing any of your music? For example, The Isley Brothers - Shout has the "Now wait a minute....." part. I cut out right after "minute', pause for a second, then go right back into "You know you make me want to shout". I also cut out a couple of the "little bit softer now".

Any songs you do this to?

Yes that's a good example , i have done edits of:
"Daft Punks"" "One More Time"" , shortened the instrumental part near the end..
Meatloaf "Paradise By the dashboard light" culled it from 8mins to around 6mins
AC/DC "Thunderstruck" shortened the intro
BTO - Takin care of Business

Any great songs with anomalies that negatively affect a good dance track are edited. This would also include bpm. For example, I personally find "Dancing Queen" is too slow to generate the desired result so I've sped it up a few bpm and it's much more "happy feet" friendly.

Unfortunately, now that I'm 99.44/100ths percent video, audio editing is stressful and not worth the effort.

I made a transition edit that goes from Tribe Called Quest - Can I Kick It, into Tiesto - Jackie Chan. I thought the word play was fun between can I kick it and "kick it jackie chan"

It's not a perfect edit, but I've tried it live once and it worked pretty well.

But, I find myself looking for re-drums and remixes that I like more than trying to do the editing myself.

here is one Matt pop did and its a cracker version
Thank you for posting that! I'm surprised I've never run across his work before. Good stuff.
His version of Cyrus's "Wrecking Ball" is a killer - not that you'd want to use it at a wedding!!

I do quite a bit of editing and pre-mixing. For any popular song, I'll usually have two cut-down versions (a "Short" edit and a "Super-Short!" edit). Then I have medleys premixed. I also usually do a big premix of current top 40 for my teen dances.

I also do Mormon teen dances, so I'll make edits that are super clean (no "God", "Damn", references to sex, drugs, smoking, alcohol etc.) For example, here's the Mormon version of Uptown Funk (short version).

I was thinking of making a tutorial for cut-downs. If you use the Sound Forge audio editing software, it's pretty easy to do seamless cut-downs (much easier than Audacity!) It looks like the remix services are doing more and more "quick edits" as an option, but it's nice to make your own.

I speak to Matt a lot of times and give him some suggestions of new remix songs - so you never know what will come out.....
