Here's my take on me asking this question. For me I still love what I do after all these years most times. Not always because there are those events we do that don't turn out the best. You know those events where the crowd really isn't into dancing yet you still have to do what you're getting paid to do.
Part of what still keeps me motivated believe it or not is the gear I use to do events. I just love seeing people having a good time because of what I have done to make them have a good time. It really helps when someone comes up to either during or after an event that you did a great job!
Sometimes it gets tough to get motivated to do an event knowing you've got some serious work ahead of you. The loading up the gear to get it where you're going to do an event. Then you have to setup and do the job and after that break things down. Then load everything up and take it back to where you came from loading it up in the first place. Then when you get there you then have to unload and in our case we have to put it back down stairs in the basement where I live.
What truly helps with all of that is when you do an event where things went over the top where you're proud to know you're still a DJ.
Notice I didn't mention anything about money being a factor because if that were it considering the work it takes to do an event, the time it has taken me to get back to the level where I am and all the money I invested in equipment, nobody could truly pay me enough money for all of that. I may add more later as it comes to me.
I'll tell you the one thing I certainly hate and that is when people keep bugging you to play this or that the whole time you're performing at an event. You know they just won't leave you alone so you can do your job that you're getting paid to do. They think they know more about DJing then you do and have never once have did a damn thing that a DJ does.
