What is your favorite opening set?

Try it, you'll see how well it works (unless the bride's name is Sue!)

I would never open with this, It usually gets played a tad later during an oldies set.

Make sure to use the original version (Dion) Not Leif Garrett! (gag!)
Also, Cue it up after the opening talking portion. (the first 22 seconds will kill the dancefloor)

I've never played this song at a wedding before.....before tonight! I'll play it tonight and tomorrow night and see how it goes over. I'll report back Sunday.

In some areas, Celebration is not considered "overplayed" (ours, for example).

I avoid playing OBVIOUS (for our local area) cheesy songs (YMCA, mac, chix), but will lead off with the "standards" like Celebration & We Are Family when I see a crowd that Doesn't Get Out Much (easy to spot).

(if the floor packs, like it did last Saturday with my 30+ age group, it ain't broke!)

I use Leif. I don't have to cue it in and it packs the floor
 
For an oldies set (Weddings) to get the older folks up out of their seats...

Morse Code of Love into Runaround Sue...

Didn't open with it but did play it. Went over okay, not great but it was played early when a lot of the party was out on the deck outside the venue. It's a great transitional song from slow to faster though and will definetly play it more often, especially when there are more older folks wanting to dance.
