I'm truly all over the place, which I think is why I like DJing. I grew up listening to Oldies 100 in the car with my parents which is where I learned a lot of the Motown, classic rock, 80s that is still serving me today.

I got into rock as a teenager. Everything from really heavy metal like Korn, and the Deftones and then I went through the Limp Bizkit phase like a lot of kids did who were finding our way. In high school I started getting exposed to hip hop. Juvenile, Lil Wayne, Nelly, Diddy, 50 Cent... all of that was in it's hay day.

I had to go back and learn the earlier hip hop when I started DJing. I knew some of that stuff by sound, but I wasn't listening to the early 90s stuff at the time because that wasn't what my parents listened to and I wasn't cultivating anything.

Today I think I have an appreciation for most genres. I can enjoy classic rock, funk, soul up through house music, hip hop, harder EDM like dubstep.

Music has always been super situational for me. I've got days where I want to listen to jazzy vibes in the house while I'm working. Or I want super high energy EDM for a work out or to drive. I like matching music to my mood - which is why I really appreciate DJing. I get to look at the room - who is here? What do they want? What is the energy level - and more importantly - where should it be?

Taking people on that journey is a gift. Getting to do it profitably is even better. Despite what we're all going through right now... I really love sharing music with people whether thats me and a buddy sitting around, or me and 400 people in a room dancing it out.

Having started at a rock station when I was 17...
my roots are most definitely in (classic) rock.
So, if I had to pick one...

But rock has not always worked well with wedding and dance crowds.
(compared to other genres)
So being a mobile DJ has given me an appreciation for many genres.

I grew up in the 70's and 80's with a lot of older siblings so they were listening to 60's and 70's classic rock, so that's always been a favorite of mine.

Love 80's music.
Didn't like rap at all at first, bit have come to like a lot of it.
90's 00's and 10's lots of good music too

I really like all kinds of music.

I can easily find at least some things in all genres I like. Probably the genre I like the least is thrash metal. It's hard to get through the screaming long enough to find something I can listen to.

Maybe 6-8 years ago, my daughter made an "alumni" appearance at her old ballet school's spring gala. I was talking to one of the parents I knew from back when we were backstage fathers and he said his son was just in the process of being signed to some label. I asked what he sang and the reply was "Screamo". He gave me a link to some of their rehearsal takes .. and by god .. I changed my least liked music type that day.

Not sure if I have a favorite genre anymore. I, like Ross only heard oldies growing up, and took a strong liking to it when a lot of my friends were listening to KISS-FM. I then grew to like pop, rock, from all decades and dance (90's house) and the only music I dislike is heavy metal. I also really appreciate Hip Hop, especially the 90s stuff.

I think having a very eclectic taste as me a better DJ. So much of DJing is about song choice and song timing.

My 2 favorites are House Music and Classic Soul. Reason is I know those 2 to be safe music to play for a crowd. I don't worry about things turning into a hot mess.
