Something I have started doing is if I see that many people aren't dancing. I've made a habit of going to the tables and talking to the people an asking them if there is something they would truley like to hear. I think they like the personal touch and it seems that they can relate to you much easier on a person to person level instead of someone that is just running the show. Of course I have been accused of being full of crap at different times. So take my rookie ideas with a grain of salt.

"Full Of Crap".......No just workin the room.....Just as James Malinchak mentioned @ Mobilebeat".... move, don't stand behind your security wall, venture out...." it's a real ice breaker.......also I try to always introduce the song and in addition the appropriate dance style, ie.....slow, 2-step, waltz, Bump & Grind whatever. More people when they here what night be a new song to them, are hesitant to wade out in the water......if they know what type dance step it is they will chance it.......sometimes

Good point Jim especially when its a modern song that has the correct beat and tempo for a classic style Dance. The mature audience will thank you for steering them towards a new song to tango to.

Sorry Jim!! When I said older, I wanted people to I wasn;t talking about a school or teen event..... I'm beyond 50 now and I guess that makes me older,,, but just in years, not in spirit,,, and I know that you share that same feeling! :)

When my wife joins me on a gig, and (very important)..if the Client likes the idea, we will dance on occasion. Announcing the song and sometimes some trivia on the song along with comments on dance style, gives the dancers confidence in making the long journey to the floor. In addition I will snap up one of the good dancers.....(fast song), or Cha,Cha and dance with them (not very often). It usually happens when one of them makes a comment like ..."You owe me a dance" or something indicating they would like to dance.... Most of gigs are somewhat attached to friends or friends of friends or acquantices...

I don't like to go to "YMCA" or "Macarena"...too early...I save those for later when a good majority of the crowd has been on the floor.....
