Weddings Weddzilla.com??

Tom, I only speak for my myself, but I think it is a VERY SLIMY business practice that has a company listing people's sites without asking for that permission. Weddzilla's owners may be great people, and the site legit, but maybe they aren't. Point is, who really knows? And why would they think that they already know everybody must surely want to be listed on their site?

I don't... at least until I have a feeling for them.

This isn't quite apples to apples here, but what if I started adding all the folks from ODJT to my retro site because I wanted to, regardless of whether they wanted to be associated with it? Maybe they don't like me.... Maybe they don't want to help me create money for my business.... Is that cool? Not by my way of thinking it isn't.

Folks:

Go back a few posts and you will find that Jake indicated that he is a launch partner for Wedzilla. Also, he also states the purpose of the site.

He is here definding the site because there have been some unwarrented attacks against it. He is not being deceptive about it and, as a matter of fact, he is being rather open. I think some folks here owe him an appology.

Jake is not trying to sell anything, just trying to defend some friends against attack. I think Rocky stated that there is nothing wrong with a site listing you on their page. If you don't want the affiliation, you can ask them to remove it and, as has been seen, they will. I, for one, have no problems with the advertisement on their site.

Jake is, as some have surmized, an officer in the DC chapter of the ADJA. What the hell is wrong with that? You people should be ashamed of yourselves. Jake and Hamton have fought a hard battle to get that chapter established. One of the things that they had to put up with with some of the backstabbing antics of some of my former colleagues in another local association.

Lately I am ashamed to be part of this board and really wonder why I even bother to be part of any of them.

Tom,

Go back and reread Jake's post and read mine as well, Jake responded directly to me calling me a hater for asking a simple question reread my post directly above yours!

There have been some legit points made by Papa and others about the site, there have also been some legit points made by Jake.

As I said before, personally I don't have a problem with the name of the site or the fact that they linked DJ services to their site. I actually signed up for their "free" services and depending on any legit leads and the number of those leads coming in WILL consider a paid add on the site.

All that aside however, if someone is going to be a leader or for that matter a DJ period they had better learn to take a little constructive Criticism from time to time (also learn how to take a little ribbing and maybe from time to time some outright personal attacks on themselves or their setups or systems)! What bothers me most about many is the fact that they can give their opinions without reservation but have a problem with anyone else that does the same!

Jake didn't ask for opinions on the site he is in partnership on, but Madness did ask about the site putting his name on it. Others had the same concerns as well, It wasn't a thread started by Jake it was started by Madness who was concerned about the auto use of his name on the site in question!

Why is that a concern? Well you, Jake, Rox and others say, "hey all you have to do is opt out"! OK, consider they never opted in! Why should should someone have to "opt" out of something they never knew about nor wanted to be a part of in the first place.

If I had a porn site and linked your business name to it and you found out about it :sqwink: would you feel that was OK! I mean what the heck all you would have to do is "opt out" of it!

There is certainly nothing wrong with being a member of the ADJA and I have said that before, the problem I have had with ADJA is the image that they have tried to project in the past and I truly hope that has changed. I have stated my position on these things many times. I am always hopeful that my perception of the leaders of the ADJA will change, but so far I haven't been given any reason to believe that they have!

I don't know, perhaps a personality disorder is required to be an officer of the ADJA, At least that is the way it is beginning to look! Anytime I even ask a simple question I am responded to as if I have made an attack on every member of the ADJA and honestly I don't understand why! I have tried to be constructive in my responses to Drax, to Hampton, and to Jake, so far Hampton is the only one who seems to take what I have to say and respond in an intelligent manner. Personally I would like to see the ADJA or any DJ Association become an organization that any and all DJs would be proud to be a part of! And as I said before I look forward to that day!

I would like to see the day when all of these "Associations" can co-exist without attacking each other. And I look forward to that day as well!

I hope you are not ashamed of me for trying to explain where I am coming from, I am certainly not ashamed of you for stating your opinion on the matter. In fact i appreciate it!

Could be.... look at his home page.

I think I explained very clearly what my role was when I said I was a launch partner of Weddzilla! There is NO connection between the ADJA to Weddzilla (and so what if there was??!!). I stumbled upon this post which I thought needed a clear explanation.

I receive no money from Weddzilla, and what's in it for me??? LEADS! LEADS!

Why is there such a problem that I am associated with both of them and at the same time?

Jake I want to answer here because even though addressed to Papa it seems you are pointing the question at me!

As I said before it was a simple question, it wasn't derogatory to you, Weddzilla or the ADJA, it was a simple question which you answered. The problem is you went on to make it an attack on myself, others and this site!

I don't know what a "launch partner" is! If it is just you being the first "paid" vendor on the site and not an actual "partner" in the business, then a lot less confusion on my own and others part could have been accomplished if you had just stated honestly that you were the first DJ to sign up for their services.

As far as you being "associated with both of them and at the same time", no one that I can see has made an issue out of that fact other than you! As before <<<<I HAVE SIGNED UP ON THE SITE>>>> before you so rudely answered my question, so apparently any preceived connection with yourself or the ADJA didn't matter to me. Since no one else mentioned it apparently it wasn't an issue with them either!

Stop and take a deep breath and represent the ADJA chapter you are a part of in a manner that comes across as more even keeled, and stop jousting with the wind mills!

Tom,

There is certainly nothing wrong with being a member of the ADJA and I have said that before, the problem I have had with ADJA is the image that they have tried to project in the past and I truly hope that has changed.

This is the problem. Some of you cannot simply let go of the past and see the future. The ADJA in my opinion has stepped it up and the local chapters are the heart and soul in my opinion. I have put in countless amounts of hours & energy to be associated with my local chapter and help out Dj's in my area. What are you doing?

I think you should spend more time trying to see how you could make a difference, maybe start your own chapter whether it's the ADJA, NAME or what have you. I used to be like you. Always skeptical, and always pointing the finger. Then I said enough and did something about it. So did 4 other people who gave up their time to be a part of our chapter.

And...How are the different associations fighting? I am confused there. I know of no such thing.

Honestly? Now you're accusing me of being dishonest. Wow.

Also I must say that you come in here with interests in such and come across deceptive being of major interest with the zilla site. Your cred is WORTHless. Go sell your goods elsewhere. Thanks for proving a point. Your claim is one of no substance as you havent benefited from one of the best sharing forums online. I marvel at the lack of posts recently which totally spells success as our members are becoming more profitable and doing more events due to in part the great sharing done here.

So far I have been accused of being dishonest, deceptive, and trying to push an agenda on some of you for trying to give a logical explanation on the original subject in this thread.

Wow, Grow up...

Jake thanks for your friendly demeanor I apologize for my not so friendly one. We really are a good bunch most of the time but you came in defensive from the start. We had this same type of discussion about another similar booking site recently. Dont think you were the select topic to date. I will abstain from making my opinion noted on this subject at this point. Have a great day.

BTW, I never once mentioned ADJA... in fact, I was a member of ADJA, and it was ADJA membership which actually got me my first booking. I have ZERO issues with the ADJA. NONE. NADA..... and if there was a Philly chapter I would probably join again. I think YOU need to chill out...

But I went to Weddzilla and read what a launch partner is... Of course you LOVE THEM! They tell people that you are a preferred vendor. In fact, when I searched 19403 zip code for a DJ today ( Philly area )... YOU came up 1st.... and you are in Virginia.

So, just be up front. There is more than your average "lead" coming in for you. And I still think it is damn slimy to include companies on their site without asking if they want to be on that site.

What do I have to be up front about? I am not the subject of this thread. Also for your information, I EARNED that launch partner listing. You have to be RECOMMENDED by other vendors in order to be a launch partner plus you have to pay $300. I paid my dues and I earned that right to be there.

To be completely honest (as I have been the whole time), I do tons of research on wedding directories. I talk to their sales people, I even meet them if they are local. I want to know how and where they advertise, but most importantly if they actually "care" about getting me work. There are some that want to help and some that just want you're money. I am a single op and I have to do this research to spend my advertising dollars wisely.

As for Weddzilla, after talking to the owners (BEFORE I decided to be a launch partner), I decided to take a gamble at their concept. Hell, it may not work - but the benefit for me is I get a lifetime platinum membership for being a partner. So in other words, I gambled on their idea - but even if I get 1 job this year or next year off of the site - it paid for itself.

Now, does that seem logical or is their something connecting me to corruption there? I tried to tell all of you my experience with them since you haven't heard of them. I did NOT need to explain everything that I DID, but wound up doing it anyway to clear up these attacks. I did not and would not try to SELL you on their site. That's for you to decide, plus I don't need the competition! :sqeek:

Oh yes, I forgot.. "Launch Partner" in this case just means they needed various vendors to help them "launch" the site. That means a careful investigation of who is the cream of the crop in the area that will best represent like interests (like elegant weddings!). My role was paying them for the spot on line & the bridal show. I receive no compensation whatsoever from them. I am not $$$ partner at all.

OK, fair enough. If I went too far I apologize, but I do feel better knowing that your position is fully explained. Thanks for doing that even if you didn't want to.

You got it!

I know some DJ's who were approached by Wedding Wire to help them "launch" there site. They pay nothing to advertise with them to this day because they helped them start out. Seems fair, maybe even a little more in our favor actually.

Actually there is one in Philly, but I don't believe it's very active. There's also one it Pittsburgh, and there is the Central PA ADJA which I think is still run by a friend of mine Charles Snyder (Sir Wolfy to some).

This maybe a great opportunity to get involved and reorganize that chapter. Even if you don't want to be associated with ADJA, you could start your own local meetings. Philly has some STRONG roots in the music business and I can't believe that there isn't anything for DJ's there. I would be excited and interested in seeing some DJ's who grew up in Philly.

No, there was one.... not any longer. I have actually spoken to Drax about this. He asked me to help start one again, but I work nights and can't.

I've gotten several emails from Weddzilla
everyone was looking for a VIDEOGRAPHER in California.
too bad I'm a DJ from Pennsylvania.
each time I emailed them back, explaining THEIR mistake
and they suggest I call them (on MY dime, of course)
to discuss "revising my profile"
It smells like BAIT to me
and I never bit

HOLY CRAP

I replied to this post about WEDDZILLA
and by the time I got to the last post
It was all about ADJA

I should stop skipping to the end!

But since you guys took it in a different direction
what EXACTLY does ADJA do for us....
and I dont mean in a vague "improve the image of DJ" kinda way
this is not PRO or CON
and I'm not looking for an OPINION
just wondered if it was REALLY worth the cost
