After the "Hey I'm the one paying for this" I would have thrown back a comment about it being her day as well. Otherwise everything else was perfect.

I had a DJ refer me to a potential client recently. A date in October 2010. Our meeting was for 6 pm. My rule of thumb is 15 minutes late, I'm done. It was approaching 6:10 and no call, no text...I figure, ok...This sucks.

Just as I shut off the lights, I see the car pull in my driveway :sqeek:

It's 6:15....

Here they come with their Dunkin Donuts cups of coffee...Laughing...Not a care in the world..

I said my hellos and intro'd myself! They looked at me and said nothing...No I'm sorry for being late...Nothing...

No shaking of hands...Nothing still...Should I mention they are 15 minutes late??? :sqmad:

They then sit down and you would think all of a sudden someone died...Complete silence. I thank them for coming...He then says.."Let's cut right to the mambo jambo, what do you charge"?

"We've met with 10 DJs, nobody is hitting our buttons, all we wanna know is how much"...

I told them no mambo here...My a la carte pricing starts here $...

She didn't say a word for 15 minutes. Just him and talking...Him more than me..I listened.

I asked her about her thoughts..?? Ahhh....Wrong thing to ask??..He blurts..."Hey, I'm the one paying for this, you pay attenton to me"!!

I then shot back....:sqmad:

"Listen, with all due respect, you show up here 15 minutes late. No phone call, no text. And with coffee in your hands. If I were to come to your reception 15 minutes late, you would have my blood, let me show you to the door, I'm no longer interested. I bid you a good night"...

I've had it with rude people.

Ahhh, this feels good...Good therapy.

This is one of the reasons why I meet potential clients at a neutral location.
I am very uncomfortable about inviting people I don't know into my home...visa-versa. They sounded like trouble. You wonder how many of the other 10 DJs told them to go pound sand.

I would have said to the groom thanks for making this decision this meeting is over. Then I would have handed her my other card for divorce parties and said give me a call in 6 months you can call the shots at that one.

Hey Bill..We moved her 1 year 4 months (?) after looking at 25 other houses. Perfect location, perfect house..When clients come here, they come to the front door, right into the conference room. They come in and out this way..If they need the restroom, it's straight upstairs.

They don't see the rest of the house....

Now...We have in the back, the pool area...With a pool room and we are considering remodeling this into our new office...At the tune of $10,000-$20,000 Gs...Maybe well worth it.

Now, we do have an alternate location. The Greek diner down the street. The family we know personally...So we patronize as much as possible and I treat my potential clients and I'm not cheap with the tip :)

Quite a coincidence. I also have a Greek restaurant a few blocks away. I had done one event there. I started bringing potential clients there and the owner grew to know me... Now re recommends me... He has a 60 seat banquet room attached. So far only one event from his recommendations, but one is better than none.

Once they are booked with me it's a different story. But do we really know who these people are that we are inviting into our house?

..No thanks, for my protection as well as theirs, we meet at a neutral public location. Many times, it's the actual venue.

He blurts..."Hey, I'm the one paying for this, you pay attenton to me"!!

"being late" is not a big problem...stuff happens
but the line about "pay attention to ME" is the red flag!

it's obvious that THEY cannot agree on things, so there is no way you would EVER be able to do a good job at this gig. He would definitely find something to complain about. especially since price is their only concern. (I mean HIS only concern)
I'm just surprised they bothered to drive and meet you in person. price shoppers (especially THIS extreme) usually go no farther than asking "how much" over the phone.

now you know why your friend referred them to you!

good choice in saying "no"!

being late to me -
I would have said sorry dont bother turning up
house is closed - your outta luck
go find that cheap dj

have a nice day
