Yesterday we received an inquiry about photography and dj services through our website.

When I looked at the information given, I was a bit suspicious.

They provided their name, phone number and their location, which happened to be Florida. Of course since we live in Illinois, that just didn't seem right.

So the first thing that I do is pull up the White Pages "reverse phone number look-up". The phone number was a cell number that was issued in Northern Illinois...Now I'm scratching my head, "wondering what's up with this?"

So, we decided to take a chance and called the number. Turns out the couple had lived in Northern Illinois and that's where they purchased their cell phone coverage. They are currently living in Florida, due to their jobs, but are getting married here in our area as most of their families are still in this area and are planning an October wedding.

In addition to the information provided via the phone call last night and the fact that the reception hall confirmed their booking of the facility we sent off contracts last night for them to look at, sign and return.

So, if we had ignored this one we might have blown the chance to book this date.
 
Congratulations. Before dismissing it as a scam I would encourage everybody to touch base with the different prospects. After doing this you should be able to confirm it as a scam or a legitimate customer.

Of course there are some really obvious ones, specially the ones overseas with lousy use of the English language offering blah, blah, blah ;) .

I would like to know if you will be available on my wedding date 1 of April 2007 (Sunday) at this hall location : 7805 NE Greenwood Dr
Vancouver, WA 98662

Pls get back to me with the exact amount you would accept for six hours (6hrs) if i am fixed. And how much will i pay in advance just to secure this date, i won't mind if you can also get a video coverage along with you but if not possible no problem.
Just let me know ontime so as to prepare further.

I love these e-mails. The most recent ones say "I welcome forward seriously to reading from you should the future happen."

My response: I also welcome forwarding to Walmart should the train tracks fly over to Yahtzee though the moon should shout for tomorrow.
 
Got a phone call from the Bride's Mother today. We are meeting with the Mother on Saturday, she is in charge of taking care of all the arrangements.

Found out where the lead came from also. The manager of the reception hall they booked gave us the recommendation.

The venue manager that sent the referral our way is one is one of the coordinators at one of the charity golf outings that we have participated in for the last couple of years, providing music and photos.

Network ...network...can you say network? :D
