As a new house warming gift for my wife, I am considering buying a Vitamix blender.

They're not cheap...the 750 model I want is $650.00 and I've wanted a juicer for years and this is so much more.

Any Vitamix blender users here? I'd love to hear your experiences, hints, etc.

We have a BlendTec that my wife loves that we bought from Costco. Weve had it since 2009. Before then we would buy a new blender every couple of years.

We use it at least once a week for baking, smoothies, sauces, and soups. I also use it to grind coffee beans, make margaritas, and slushies for the kids.

Easy to use and clean. It was worth the investment for us.

My ex used to have one of those expensive blender/juicers. Didn't work any better than my $20 one (which I can say has been working fine for many years now).

On the other hand, you get 2 cases of V8 low sodium from Amazon for $24 like I do, and no mess or cleanup :)

The cheaper blenders don't have the power to process things like fruit skins, so you need to peel apples, peaches, plums, etc before blending. If you like raw food juice, you really only have 2 choices .. one of these higher end blenders or a juicer, and while the juicers may make very smooth juice, they don't make a lot of it .. plus you're throwing away the vitamins in the skins of the fruit.

I suppose if I wanted to eat skins off of fruit, I would peel them off and eat it, along with the pesticides they've been sprayed with.

I often use the blender for chicken salad -- I like it fine, since my teeth aren't in the best shape. It has no problem going through cold chicken, celery, onions, whatever I throw in there. It's a Hamilton Beach cheapy, but I can pretty much make anything I want in it.

I still think the V8 juice is a better alternative for veggie juice -- they do all the work, and it's less expensive. Perhaps that is why I still have hair...

My mother told me it's all my enormous brain cells pushing the hair out .. making room .. and I don't argue with Mom.

A video comparison (making banana bread) - worth the view for the eye candy.

Dependence on Blenders to process your food is self defeating. Unless you have no teeth to chew, the use of blenders to extract nutrition from fruits and vegetables is a lazy way of processing your food. When one chews their food, important enzymes come into play. This in turn helps in your digestion. Prepare and cook your food properly and what you eat will reward you with the proper nutrition and digestion.
Foods (Vegetables/Fruits) that grow below the ground have their nutrients closer to their skin. So avoid peeling as much as possible, scrub instead or remove skin after cooking so nutrients can be retained.
Foods (Vegetables/Fruits) that grow above the ground have their nutrients closer to their core so avoid coring of fruits or for the very least, do not over core.

Don't believe me! Take a cross section slice of a carrot and see which part is darker/more concentrated. Do the same with an apple. You can either eat food that has its nutrients destroyed by improper cooking and preparation and have to rely on supplements (Which don't work in most cases) or prepare and cook foods the correct way and get all your money's worth without having to rely on wasting money on supplements.

Eating foods that is full of nutrition will get you full faster and help maintain ideal weight. Eat foods that lack nutrition will full your belly but leave you hungry faster. One of the main reason for snacking between meals. If one is Diabetic or prone to getting Diabetes, they should be very careful with what and how they eat. You won't want to put dirty Gas in your only car would you? Why would you put poor fuel in your body?

It's not for "preparing" food .. it's for making them drinkable. I eat a lot of raw fruits and vegetables, but sometimes, one wishes a tall cold smoothie .. hard to make one by chewing.
