Video Cam Suggestions

I don't shoot vids and that's not the point. My point is who AREN'T going to shoot decent vids with ANY of these consumer-grade camcorders in a typical wedding scenario. You're going to have to put more light on the floor to get decent vids. That said, the Zoom that Wes pointed out is an excellent camera for these type applications. That said, I do have both Flip and Canon vixia recorders that do a good job. Important, make sure whatever camera you get has a built-in limiter on the audio. The non-limiter cameras will distort at the sound levels you're probably working at.

I have a Line6 BackTrack+Mic that I use for recording practice sets (I've taken up bass playing again). The Zoom will replace it AND work as a video cam. Thanks again for the suggestions. Ordering later today.

Have to chime back in on this thread. I picked up a Zoom Q2HD on the way to the gig Saturday ($199). I started to get the Q3 but this one is newer and advertises "night time" mode. Sorry I don't have vid edited yet but in previewing on the unit it appears much brighter than I was expecting. The audio is excellent and I love the thumbwheel they have on the side, which adjusts mic gain on the unit. I'm thinking this is an excellent purchase and would recommend the OP check this out. First consumer grade camcorder I've seen that would capture low-light stuff like that. Amazing.

And if the room is dark and you have your lights on.....put it in concert mode, and it will adjust to the light and not have the bleed effect
