VDJ8 with external USB camera issue

I'm looking to switch VDJ 8 for video with a USB camera as I'm updating my entire video rig, i'm having a hard time getting version 8 to work at all with any external usb capture device (using there associated drivers installed properly on Win 8.1). I'm using a new lenovo y70 touch, vdj8, and several usb capture dongles. I've tried several: Pinnacle pctv 800e, ion video forever usb capture, and dazzle hd recorder. None of these seem to work with vdj8, all I get is some cryptic error e-XXXXXXXXX etc and then sometimes a green screen. It does work with the internal camera that is 720p without any issue. I'm confused what to do or how to fix it. Can anyone provide any guidance?

To note: all of the above work properly in GrandVJ and Tellamedia standalone.

I'll take a look at that, problem is, I'm not using a webcam, I'm using a Sony D-100 and want to pump it into the software. Since other apps have no issue with any of the dongles, I wasn't sure if it was something simple I missed in VDJ or some plugin that could solve the issue, I think I read that thread, but I'll check again.... Thanks.
