I have used Virtual DJ 7 Pro for a long time. I know virtual DJ 8 is out now but when I tried it I just didn't like it as much. Everything seemed to look smaller on the screen. Maybe it's the skin i'm using for it but can someone who has successfully transitioned from 7 to 8 tell me why I should switch. I'm worried that eventually they'll come out with VDJ9 and 7 won't be supported and I'll be stuck switching anyways. What are the benefits of VDJ8 over VDJ7?

I'm in the same boat, I really tried to use 8 but I just can't get used to it, maybe you can't teach an old dog new tricks

I have been trying 8 since its first public release. I still use 7 for my live events. It is missing too many features I use to commit yet. The nice thing is you can have both installed simultaneously so you can adjust to 8 but stick with using 7 for your events until your ready to switch forever.

8 = Better sound quality, way more customization, a really cool "instruments" section... sweet automixing panel that analyzes whatever you throw into it, and best of all.... auto-detecting soundcard/controller support.

Come over to the dark side. VDJ8 is where it's at.

8 for me has been rock solid in audio and video. This includes a 12 hour NYE party at my house (You got to love Mexico for some things). CPU usage with audio can go less than 5% and running Full HD videos it only spikes when loading (Seems AVI files load faster and the spike is not that big) 35%. I've used Milkdrop, Slideshow Telly Visuals and love this thing. Audio is PC -->NI Audio 10 --> Rane MP44 or A&H S2R --> Controller is a Denon HC4500. Use 4 decks with no issues. Hell I¿ve posted pictures of the program running in one of my desktops using a Core i3 integrated graphics and 6GB of RAM, this is an AIO.

I just finished redoing tags, cues, etc. and love the program, no crashing-. Had some issues with a skin at the beginning but those were fixed and this past week found another one. When loading the same song on deck 2 the waveforms on top would vanish, not an issue but it was reported and it has been fixed in a couple of days.

My main laptops are 2 Sony Vaio Core i7 with NVidia video card, 12GB RAM.
My secondary set 2 ASUS Core i5 with Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics (These run video without a problem either) 8GB RAM.

This is a whole new animal and people need to read the manual as there is so much new and interesting stuff some people don't realize it's there and how it works ;)

I'm just bummed for weddings I usually load a video slide show during dinner and it would play over all of the audio tracks. I was told at VDJ they have no intention of returning that feature. The stability issue I may be experiencing is on the Mac version.

DJ Stevie Ray: Can't you "un" link the audio/video slider and run the video slide show in player A and your normal audio programming in player B?

You will also need to change the linking setting in Video (unclick video crossfader linked to audio crossfader).

Please note I too share your allegiance to Ver 7.4. I have not tinkered with 8 because, for me, 7.4 ain't broke so I ain't gonna fix it.

You can still do this. I will try and remember to look at my settings when I get home.

My biggest issue is I want to use 8 on a brand new laptop, I am far from "tech savy" I want all of my history and content unlimited cache to transfer to the new laptop but have no clue how to do this easily.

You might try posting this question in the VDJ forums. I am not sure but if your music is on an external drive it should be fine. VDJ stores it's database on the same drive as the music. But like I said I would search their forum and if you do fine anything post, people are pretty quick to respond. http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/index.html

Tunes4046, it's not difficult to do but it is laborious. Once a full grasp is understood about the .xml database configuration, where it's located, and how to simply edit content, shazaam boy wonder, it's done. It'd take 10 minutes on the phone or two hours of typing. Call me if you'd like when you are at your computer. (east cost time zone)

A free program that makes all of this so much more simple is Notepad ++ which allows batch file edits of xml files. Get it. Install it. Then call.

Has anybody noticed excessive compression (pumping audio) with VDJ8? I didn't notice any on this old pentium box before tweaking but now it's bugging me using headphones and the built-in soundcard. Not sure if it'll do the same thing on USB output. I've tried turning auto gain on and off. It seems to pump even worse with auto gain off. Any suggestions?

Rick,
In advanced options set zeroDB to 0.75 or 0.50 . The pumping you hear is the limiter engaging in the program.

EDIT: I would also set the Master Output to 75% you can program this using the ONINIT scripting so when you start the program the Master will be set at 75%.

Thanks for the tips. I'm digging the video playback. FOB gave me a WMV file to play and I'm really liking this interface. I had the vid screen maximized and hit the ESC button, thinking it would take it out of full-screen. Instead, looks like it start looping the section. Guess it pays to play with it ahead of time.

Cap you can do that. But it's far from automated and the video won't loop. I just want a specified background video to play whenever playing audio only files.
Look into 2 plugins TellyMedia and TellyVisuals you can download form the VDJ plugin site. I think TellyMedia can run video.

That's the part that is hard to get past. I know it's totally redone but it would be nice if they kept it somewhat recognizable. It's very different from VDJ7.
