I think it would be just a matter of changing the size of the created monogram image to account for the different throw length.
Because of the image spread, if you make a smaller logo/monogram to display, you end up with a grainier, less defined image when projected (you are using less pixels) than you would have if you use the full resolution of the projector. So while it will do in a pinch, a long throw is probably best for a dance floor projection, while a short throw is best for wall projection or any video/slide show work, as it will tuck in closer to the screen.
