what a thread. I'm averaging $750-$1200 for weddings depending on what the client wants. If I had nothing booked and a 24 hr notice for $1200, I'd be all over it as long as I could cover the basics: dances, relative dances first/last dance and a quick timeline. No problemo! All weddings flow well when you are outgoing and have the experience. Sure....there's always going to be some jerks, wannabe DJ "friends of the groom" and such. You learn how to disarm these people nicely, and if necessary, not so nicely. You have to act as a professional, exude confidence and win trust. after that........you are on your way. I've said it before....treat it as a business......who cares what the client is up to.....the cash is all green! Take the money, give them a great time. 'Nuf said.

You missed something here. This was not a last minute wedding notice. We had a wedding we did on super last minutes notice. The DJ cancelled the day before and we did the wedding. This other one that was $1,200.00 the DJ sent out the contract months in advance and didn't get a response back until almost a month before the wedding. So that left the client plenty of time to do something to making a payment towards the $1,200.00. They chose to wait till the last minute to ask if the DJ would accept the money the night before the wedding. I just say that's a lot of nerve on the clients part and like i said earlier i would have sent them on their way looking for another DJ to do their wedding.

Are you mad MAchon? If Im sitting at home on said Saturday and someone waved a 12 spot over my head I could do it just like the last minute larrys. Get over yourself and make some money. I would love taking it. Your making it personal when its only business. My only issue would be hmm now should I buy the Dennon 6000? What will \I spend the extra gift on. If its not the issue of having to jump through hoops last minute but rather your EGO send that client over to me I will do their gig Saturday. Oh wait Im booked I wont be available for a Saturday gig until March.
