I'm actually contemplating leasing my next vehicle. On some vehicles, the lease price + the buyout price is sometimes less than the purchase price, since a few marks prefer not advertising discounts.

Steve I never leased but this sounds tempting. If I leased a car for 3 years at 250.00 per month. That would be 9000.00 for 36 months. The car is valued at 25k new and then at the end of the lease they would offer it to me at a buyout price of 16k. Is that how it works? Or can I negotiate the buyout price to a lower number like 14K?

As for leasing, I have an uncle. He's very rich. He always leases because he never wants to drive a vehicle over 3 years old.
Yes Wes , There are rich people that like a new car under three years old. We're talking about a company owned lease. Not personal lease!

And what would that have to do with writing off a lease payment for the business??

Mostly .. My son just leased a 2013 Accord. List was $24K. He pays $215 a month for 36 months + $3500 up front for a total of $11,240. The buyout is $14,300, so the total is slightly more than the sticker, but he doesn't pay sales tax on it and maintenance is included for the 36 months. That, and he would never have qualified for a $24K loan at age 23. So this way he can walk at the end, or if he wants, he can buy it without too much of a loss.

My neighbor leased a 2013 Lincoln Navigator, which stickers at $72K. It's not worth that. His monthly payments + the buyout total about $58K. Still not worth it in my opinion, but more tolerable .. and Lincoln can still show it at $72K, which I assume impresses some.

For me, I've wanted a BMW forever. A new 328xi will be around $40K. They are offering a 528xi for $449/ month on lease. I would never have considered going up, but at that price, I'm thinking hard. I still need to compare and a lot depends on the residual value and buyout.

Mix,
I 'll say thre same thing I said to Rick...
if you own the van, then a $400 bill sure beats 12 monthly payments.
I didn't know they made $400 bills ... ba dum dum -kssshh.

Maybe he needs to "spread" out the payments! If I had it all my way I'd put that car in a corner! :pillyes:

I still don't understand why many of you don't form corporations. You can take a loss every year, write off almost everything, and it only costs about $500 to form.
Because some of us are not stuck into yesterday and will spend some money to be comfortable. Some of us have moved out of the stone ages and their mates won't allow them to live their either.

Mix that makes no sense. None at all. Please get back on your meds.

I'm not sure Mix knows what a corporation is...

As a sole proprietor, if you take a loss for a couple years, the IRS deems you a hobbyist, and will probably audit you. A corporation is not subject to those rules.

I'm sort of assuming Mix doesn't even have an accountant, or file tax returns for his DJ business.

I just forked over $2,000 to fix both back window systems on my wife's Vw bug. Both very small back windows stopped working within a month of each other. On both of them, the cable broke. When she tried to hit the button to roll the window up, the broken cable tore up the motor. These are 2 completely separate units on opposite sides of the car.

The car is 9 years old, but has 80k miles on it.
