Ive played with the demo( yeah, thats it), and I think I will stick with VDJ for the time being, I would like to use Serato, but sadly, no mapping for the MKI 6000

Got mine yesterday (for my new AIO PC and Denon MC6000 MK2). I was using Serato on it, but I just couldn't get used to it, so I went to buy Traktor and, HOT DOG... $49.50.[emoji1] I also looked at VDJ, but at $149, it made my choice easier.[emoji4]

I'm curious what you were having an issue with. And is Traktor any easier?

I know a lot of mobile DJs seem to like VDJ, but it's all a preference thing to me.

You've got the "Big Three" - VDJ, Traktor, Serato. All good, each with their own quirks and idiosyncrasies. I had high hopes for Mixvibes Cross, as I thought it actually had the best combination of features from those three, but Mixvibes went off on a tangent developing, what IMHO, are the "lets get on the bandwagon with some stupid iphone/ipad apps".

The following is a quote from me posted on DJWORX -

"It is a real shame that Cross is not being more actively improved with
some of the simple suggestions from these (the Mixvibes) forums. You used to read
statements like "the big four in DJ software" with Cross being the
fourth. No more. Now there is also Rekordbox DJ and DJay Pro (for
Windows) in the game. Lost momentum. Did you people just give up?"

Here's the response from Louis-Pierre Baudry (one of the Principals at Mixvibes) -

"Like some other software developers did in their own time, we have chosen to concentrate our resources on new products for some time. As you rightly pointed out, creating mobile versions and new software while continuing to improve Cross Mac/PC is quite challenging and this is why we had to postpone the release of a new major version.

That said, Cross 4 is still in the work so the upside is that there is still time to integrate the feature requests submitted on the forum. I will double-check with our team that our bug fix/feature request list is up-to-date and includes everything that has been mentioned there. You can also let me know if there are any additional/major concerns you'd like to highlight."

Best,
Louis @Mixvibes

Mixvibes came this close (me holding two fingers slightly apart) to being the best, except for two incredibly dumb "what were they thinking" issues that make it useless for me -
1) Using a shade of gray for the scroll line in the library that is almost impossible to see in some kinds of ambient light. What?
2) An Autoplay that immediately transitions to the next song in the playlist when it is engaged. What??

These issues, and others, have been raised by myself and others as far back as 5 years!!

Unfortunately, so it goes with all of them. I think it's basically because they all suffer from a "Catch 22" problem - People who actually DJ don't have the skills to write software, those that have the skills to write software don't DJ.

You're right... It's mostly just a preference thing. I'm used to Traktor, so Serato just does not seem as intuitive to me. However, I tried VDJ8 just briefly, and it was pretty nice... I think I could use it if I wanted to. Just not for $149.:djsmug:

The reality for many mobile jocks is almost all the apps do the job .. it's only when you use time code, or multi-sampling, or are "creating" music, that the differences show up. I have most of the apps (except VDJ, though I have the free version and had the old Numark Cue, which was the same app). I find Traktor to be simple, Serato is fine, but I actually gravitate to PCDJ Dex .. just used it longer. DJPro might be worth a check .. I bought it for my iPad. Tried the early beta and there were too many bugs .. might be OK now.

Aaahhh...I loved good old PCDJ Red. Used it from 2002 to 2011...than switched to RockIt...both used the K.I.S.S. methodology.
Yea .. I would have used RockIt for more than the month I did, if Ricky put in the dang iTunes support.

That was never an issue for me as I don't use I Tunes's playlist feature.

My genres were pretty specific so I never felt the need...
I use an iPhone and have 2 iPads I use for music backup, so the iTunes integration is a must. Every other app supports it .. Ricky was just a little pigheaded about it.

I consider iTunes and Starbucks about the same - I have absolutely no idea why anyone would want to use them.
I bet you're one of those Android fanboys ...

You mean that about Starbucks coffee?
For real - I actually think Dunkin Donuts is better coffee!

Nope - I hate them all. No iTunes on any of our computers. I carry my wife's old iPhone 4s simply because she got a newer one, there is no longer a cost advantage with Verizon for carrying an old style flip phone, and it seems to hold up to me throwing it long distances.

Well, there are two types of people in this world. Those that believe Starbucks has better coffee than Dunkin Donuts, and those that are wrong.

If you use multiple apps .. and especially if you use the iDevice platforms .. there really isn't any other good music management application. If you stick with one app, then maybe you can use their own crate/library system .. otherwise, iTunes rules by default (and it's pretty good once you learn its idiosyncrasies).

I'm the Music Management. Now remember, I've kind of gone off on a tangent with Latin Music.

iTunes - like all the others - does a really poor job with giving the correct Genre for Latin Music. Often it is just dumped as Latin/Pop or something like that. I need to know if the song is Salsa Dura (Hard Salsa), Romantic Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Bachata, etc..
So, since I need to listen to the song to do this, it's just as easy (I use Serato to do this) to edit all the fields, not just Genre. Lastly, I color code the song. This all takes time and is work. However, once this is done, it takes me two seconds to build Crates by sorting on the Genre or the color codes, and then it's just as easy to copy those Crates to a memory stick (and then copy them to my back-up laptop). It's why I use Serato.

Remember also, I like the music. I probably spend at least 3-4 hours every week updating my library, but it's done late at night after the dog has been walked, the wife's in bed, I've got my headphones on, mouse in one hand, cool beer in the other, Serato's running, and ODJT's in the background. Life's good!!

That's only if you rip through iTunes .. you can rip with AccurateRip or similar, fix your genres with your favorite tools and just use iTunes for playlist management. Granted you can't color code in iTunes or make crates, but then those would be useless in PCDJ or Traktor (or VDJ).

As I said, if you can limit yourself to a single app (like Serato), then there are other tools you can use that may be better .. but if you still use an iPad as a hot backup to Serato .. you'll still need iTunes to manage that.
