Guys,
I was helped by a very intellegent young sound engineer from EV (Bosch) last week with fine adjustments to my EV DCONE. He told me my Q1212 amp would run comfortably with 6 EV-TX1181 subs at a 2.5 to 2.7 ohm load, even driven hard. I run 4 of those subs on the amp with no problems at all, I just never ran anything into a 2 ohm load.
Should I expect any change in sound quality? He said if driven to the 0 db level for long periods the fans would run a bunch but the Q1212 is extremely stable at a 2 ohm load. Make me smarter on what is going on here at the load both in current and sound quality.
The only reason I bring this up is, I have a few giggs coming up where I will play some large rooms, twice the size of a normal HS gym( plus or minus) and I may have to add subs. Yes I have four but I am guessing 6 or 8 subs, as this will be HS teen music.
I do have an extra Q1212 amp, and could drive 8 subs at four ohm loads on both amps, but what do you suggest if I only step to 6 subs with the amps I have available?
Additionally, at 6 or 8 subs do you run all in a row togehter in front (coupled as I do my four) or do you stack 2 subs high in a row of 6 or 8? I had thought of with 8 going 6 across centered with a stack of two each on the ends, with a pair of tops on that stack and my other tops in a support roll up higher on the stage with tripods.
Thanks Ray J.
