So Saturday...Had one of those gigs where ...unless i played a line dance...the floor was just kids playing....

Video... View: https://www.instagram.com/p/BmdFVzhnW7w/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=1xck2kbk0rx9b

And you know what... for years i hated these gigs... i wanted every party to be me playing to a sea of 20 somethings screaming at every transition... but as i get older ive come to realize that some people have just as much fun sitting at their table watching the kids play and listening to some good tunes...

I recieved so many compliments at the end of the night from people who never stepped out on the dancefloor....and i realized that at those gigs where a sea of people danced and sweated all night...rarely does any take the time to say anything complimentary....lol

Any thoughts?

I think a lot of it is having the confidence in yourself to know when you're getting it done and that your clients (and their guests) are having a great time. Great job and great thoughts.

Thanks Rick...

I wouldnt want every gig to be like this... but its good to accept them for what they are and find some enjoyment.

As a post script to the original post... the few songs shown in these videos are only a small segment of the tapestry of music and crowd motivation aspects of this party.... we did a whole section of classic soul....70s...80's...and assorted beach music... however my videographer/wife always seems to miss the parts where im on my game...lololol

Well said. For many, that's tough to accept as we tend to feel we did a less than stellar job even though the guests had a good time.
We are a weird bunch here. I feel a psychiatrist would have a field day trying to figure out our own brand of "special".:moneek:

I know what you're talking about is true... but I still hate parties like that. Yes, the guests might ultimately be having fun. But I get my energy from the response I'm getting from guests. If that response is just sitting around chillin... I don't get much satisfaction out of it.

Not every gig is people loosing their minds on the dance floor. I used to see those gigs as a bust. I learned not every crowd is a dancing crowd. Some just come to mingle and listen to the music. One way to judge judge if things are going well is if people are tapping their feet to the music or hands moving. Great job. Way to go.

And on the night you feel like you haven't done your best....
is usually the night you get a tip and a great big "THANK YOU"...

I have a theory about that................some people just suck at partying. Their perception is often much different than what you and I will have. As long as they're happy and the check clears...........I'm good.

The irony is...this party was 4 hours....and felt like 8....lol

Then the parties where the floor is packed and people dont want to stop dancing are usually 3 and feel like a half hour.... and ya just wanna keep djing but the lights come up...
