BTW, guess what I will be doing tomorrow and Tuesday?.... Practicing - sans bubbles - for my first Bubble Party of the season. ( Wednesday )

I can't beileve I feel like I need to practice, but I do.

Last year I put together a detailed script of my bubble party program, it showed what to say and when, and even told me what to cue in the other cd player and when (I have my typical program burned onto two discs, because a couple of the songs I cue into certain points, I have that detailed on my script). Of course by the end of last season I could do my program with my eyes closed, but the script was a big help starting up this season.

A script is the perfect way to do it. Even to have the songs and games laid out in order ready to go. You do need to be ready to change up the order at the last minute or extend longer if needed.

I wrote a script up for all my fire safety education programs for the guys at the station. These big bad ass firefighters were like jelly fish when they had to give a station tour or a safety talk to a bunch of 6 year olds. So I wrote up a plan for them to follow step by step. It took them from watching a Sparky video, knowing what questions and lessons to give the kids, to how to give a station tour in order. If they followed the script they were find. Guys would panic if they couldn't find it. I'd get calls from the groups crying like babies "we got a tour coming in and we can't find any of the tour scripts".

I should have wrote a book. I could have called it "The Best Fire Station Tour Ever". :sqeek:

Tightwads? Or they just don't understand?

I have my 1st BP of the year tomorrow. So, today I call to touch base. The lady who booked me told me that we would be having a 15 minute party for 2 year olds and 45 minutes for the bigger kids.

I told her that 30 kids is about the max I take for a party... Today she tells me they have a possible 52 kids coming to the bigger party, if all the kids show up at school.

WWYD?

Chuck I don't know the format of a bubble party is so mabye I am missing something but whats the difference between 30 and 52 at these functions?

Big difference IMO, is that kids have short attention spans... for instance, it takes far longer to get 52 kids to do the limbo than 30 kids. We do a routine with hula hoops... I bring 12 hoops... Now imagine sharing 12 hoops with 52 kids instead of 30.... all in a 60 minute party.

The limbo is easy. I get get a few of the teachers and or mothers to hold my pole. If there's that many kids I just bring out an extra pole and have two or three lines.

Yeah, I have 2 poles... but even 26 kids at a time is a lot, IMO.

Chuck,
Do you have the ladies hold your pole or do you hold it yourself?

When I do elementary school dances I've done the limbo with over a hundred kids at a time. It takes a really long pole to accomplish that task.

Elementary school kids, I think, can handle the longer waits, better, eh?

For me, the larger groups become harder to manage, they are more likely to splinter off into little clicks. It's because of their attention span but also in a larger group they are less likely to feel that you are talking to them as an individual and that shortens their attention span even more.

I have been getting a lot of requests for multiple 30 minute parties lately. It's been an even split between money issues and issues with the number of kids (which I guess is actually a money issue, otherwise they would book multiple parties). I refuse to do a 30 minute party, however I don't say it that way. I have (so far) managed to talk them all into mulitiple 45 minute programs, charging full price for the first and discounting the rest. Last year I found that many of the kids had tuckered out around 45 minutes anyway, however I don't tell them that either.

And...believe it or not, I have yet to use my hula hoops.

OK, is everyone just missing my Pole humor? Did it go over everyones head? Should I spell it a bit slower for you guys in the back?:sqwink:

OK...that was funny.:sqlaugh:

Did it go over everyones head?
No, I didn't mean that as the joke. That was an accident although now that I read it an unintentional pun. I kill myself sometimes.

I was getting ready to do the limbo at a High School special needs dance. The adult volunteers were all women. Good friends of mine as well. Without thinking I ask "can I get a few of you ladies to volunteer to hold my pole". They all just started laughing. Once I realized what I said, well they got a kick out of it.:sqlaugh:
