I'm looking to get a smaller system for house parties or greek parties where my full QSC rig would be too much. I currently have two MTX TP112 speakers from a while ago that I never intended to use for DJing. However, I need an amp for them. Or, I could look into a Matrix 1000 system. Which should I choose?

Thanks

For a House Party I would use a Bose L1 in a heartbeat. Believe it or not but I have used my Bose AWM and it worked quite well. If its for a younger crowd, then you will need something stronger as mentioned by others above.

If you are looking at Peavey SP's I suggest Yamaha Clubs which are very similar to the SP's. Personally I think those are big, heavy and a pain to move around in a small space. I would go for something smaller & lighter like the EV Live-X 12's.

Definitely use an EQ as the acoustical environment varies wildly and be prepared to aim the speakers very precisely to tame slap-back. It can be somewhat opposite of a larger space and you may find that tilting speakers upwards and purposefully bouncing sound off the ceiling works pretty well when you can't get the speakers high enough in a conventional setup.

Don't get too crazy on subs as it's hard to get enough space for a the very low bass waves to propagate. You almost could use a home audio sub-woofer if you install some handles on it, but the reliability would be questionable. I used one for a few years and was very careful with it and people liked it.
