The Karaoke party was a complete success -

1) The audio and video worked great. OpenKJ crashed once early in the evening, then ran fine all night. It has always done this since I first installed it (even before adding Equalizer APO). A ntdll.dll conflict, and I'm pretty sure this is because it is a native Linux app, ported to Windows. Isaac Lightburn, it's developer, is aware of it and thinks it is a gstreamer issue - nice guy. IMHO, the program is so good I'd have no issue with putting together a Linux laptop just to run it.

2) I sing so bad I made everybody else good!

3) Before I confer with the mentally unstable at Karaokescene, I'd like to know how you handle the "serious" singers that bring their own CD's. I had two there. Fortunately, I already had most of their songs, and OpenKJ handles the Key changes they want - but how do you actually play directly from a CD? Are there dedicated CD+G players, and if so, how do you switch the video? I obviously could rip/import them into OpenKJ's database, but besides the legal issue, that would be a huge PIA.

Edit - NEVERMIND, I just realized all I have to do is drag and drop from Windows Explorer (showing the CD's contents) to OpenKJ's Player window!! I didn't know they made stupid pills that large!! However, besides the technical issue, there was the "people" issue of these two acting like they were singing at an audition - far more serious than the other 38 people who were there just for fun. It's kind of good I did not figure this out until this morning - they could have easily dominated the party (if I had let them).

Hey Steve, have you used this very much and do you like it?
Yea .. works fine. Only thing I haven't tried is the built-in wireless mic capability .. you need to get their unit with a USB mic receiver. Other than that it works far better for a simple setup than the GoRack did. I'll be using it next weekend for a SB party. My neighbor hosts it, but I bring some speakers so the audio part covers the 40 people that come .. probably my RCF EVOX .. and I'll use the Samson to connect to his TV box.
