looking for info and opinions, I'm thing about making my last purchase ( at least in my life time ) on speakers. I'm looking at QSC k12.2 and KS 212C, what do you thing about them and sound Thanks. My Big JBL's are getting to dam heavy to pick up and move around and schools are a thing of the past so I don't need to do rock concert's any more. AS of Dec. 31st. I retired from work so I've got to watch what I spend.

That 's what I thought 15 years ago.
New speakers are all lighter. QSC k12.2 and KS 212C are popular.
I use EV ZLX at 34.3 lbs. for small receptions ( 100 - 150) EKX 12s at 41.4 lbs. 1500 watts with wood cabs for larger events.
Subs EKX 18s / 63.93 lbs. looking for another option.
JBL Eon10 G2 for ceremony's and side fill. 19# each

K12/KS212 are a good, solid combination. I might consider the array setups though ..maybe RCF EVOX 12 as a lighter weight setup.

Alto TS312. Lighter Weight, and sound just as good! :) Easy to use. They look good ...You don't need bells and whistles or a menu screen to deal with. 35.5 lbs, and get plenty loud and sound clear. For Subs, just pick up a light weight Alto TS212S or TS215S. You only need one since you aren't doing rock concerts any more :)

Steve149...I thought you purchased the Evox 8 pair a few years back? How are the Evox 12 for weight and move-ability? The Evox 8 have both the head and subwoofer in the same carrying mode. How wide and deep is the bottom? I know...check out the RCF website. LOL!
Weight is NOW an issue. Want the subwoofer like the Evox system setup.
Neurosurgeon says my back (lower) is a mess. The nerve canal is narrowing due to "old age" but moreover the lugging and tugging of DJ equipment over the years. Back surgery is now on the horizon. Nothing that will require pins, etc. Only going to go in and carve a bit of the vertebrae so the canal is a bit less tight in the area that has had the most stenosis.
For now, however, doc says "No lifting of pianos". Of course my wife interpreted that as your done doing DJ work (for now, in my opinion).
Hence, the need to seriously think about downsizing again. I'm not doing as many gigs per year and none that require more than the Evox 8 output.
Need suggestions, too. But, please, don't derail RedHot's thread.

I've still got my evox 8 and my 8 other jbl's that includes the big set up but I'm thinking weight and great sound

as I don't do many or none at all ( schools ) this year so far ive got 13 car shows to do and as you all know car shows outside, weather,

If you lock your self into one speaker choice than you are also locking yourself into one event plan.

If you're retired why don't you out source the PA portion such that you can book any kind of event and not be responsible for the size, weight or complexity of the FOH sound ystem?

Focus on having a great DJ setup and rent or hire the FOH when it exceeds what you want to deal with.

EVOX 8 are great .. I just know RedHot likes "BIGGER", and the EVOX 12 is closer to the QSC combo mentioned. 12s aren't as compact when broken down, but they have a larger sub and more SPL on top. For me, the EVOX 8 does anything I need.

If we are talking outdoor events, Alto TS312 or EVZLX, or JBL EON 612 or 615 are going to be the better choices. That menu screen on the KSC K12.2 Speakers will be harder to see outside if you need to make changes at the event, or during it.

Also, QSC Speakers are going to run like $1600+ Tax, maybe a bit less if you get them on sale, or get a good deal locally at a store, but why purchase expensive speakers to use at outdoor events.

...The RCF JVOX 8 an 12 are nice speakers, but you don't want to put those subs on the ground. If you do, you need to bring mats to put under them to keep them clean and prevent scuffing them on pavement. ....Then what if it rains or something. ....I'd rather have speakers on speaker stands at an outside events.

Also JBL EON 612 and 615 are both on sale at Guitar Center right now. Pretty good prices on them. ...However, I have A/Bd them. The newer Altos have more throw for volume, and sound better to me. Keep the RCF speakers for weddings. Sell the old JBLS, and buy a few less expensive speakers for outdoor events and parties etc.

Do you want to stock pile gear or make make money doing what you love? If you'r a DJ the size of the sound system and size of the gig doesn't really change what it is you do for a living.

I just rented 6 QSC K10, 2 QSC Subs, 2 QSC HPR152, Midas M32R, DL32, and 300Ft CatCon for less than the price quoted above.

Maybe he is in a location where rental isn’t an option for me to rent gear is well over an hour drive

QSC speakers are a great choice. They sound great with plenty of power. Their amps are awesome. That's another great reason to buy QSD speakers. They are very reliable. My 3 favorites are JBL QSC and Yamaha. The Mackie SRM 450's are nice too. A DJ used them last night. I don't know why some DJs don't like them. Alto makes some good speakers as well depending on the model.

Rental is tough around here as well... definitely do not have much of a choice either...most of it is so beat up im embarrassed to use it

Ive got EV zlx 15's... they sound good...but i dont really push them... nice for small events... if i had it to do over id definitely spend the extra on something with more headroom.... but thats gonna be heavier... if you are trying to lighten the load and not looking to blow the roof off...id go with one of these line array systems... id love to have the ev evolve 50 system...

with so many car shows to do I hate thinking about putting those QSC out doors in the elements and where to plug them in for power

Then why do that? Stick with Passive speakers + a Class D amp. EV SX-300 are excellent - there's even a weather resistant version of them available.
