Are you buying powered speaker or are you going to buy an amplifier also?
With that budget I would suggest a used B-52 Matrix 1000 system, as far as quality they are built well but don't sound the greatest.

Forget powered speakers, seriously. I'm digging this combo:

For that price range, it's a great combination.

okay guys lets give constructive suggestions saying powered is bad or non powered is preference and just because one had an experience doesnt negate the 1000's who do multiple gigs per week with them in rain snow and Direct Sunlight!!! Main I would say you need to determine which of the two options works for you and then contact Ben he will help steer you towards the best options within your budget. Mackie Thumps. They sound good for your budget. My partner brought a pair. Not top of the line but good and the sound isn't that bad either. So far not an issue with over heating.
First question would be what are they being used for. For $700 you are not going to get a Good system with powered speakers, you will be able to get decent depending on what you are looking for.
In truth I would get Two 15 powered cabinets and then when you have more funds get a sub to go with them. You will have a much better system going this route then buying cheap mains and a sub.

The Thumps are ok or fair at best. My partner like i said before brought a pair. Not what i would have gotten. There's much better out there.
My question to the op is what type of events are you doing? For that budget i would look for some used power speakers.
