Somebody give Kid Rock a clue about iTunes...

So I'm browsing iTunes current top 100 songs and I see #6. It's "All Summer Long" but the artist is "Hit Masters." I think to myself is this some new rap group?

No, the KARAOKE vocal version of Kid Rock's hit song is #6 on iTunes top songs!

I wasn't aware that Kid Rock doesn't sell on iTunes but apparently he must have some aversion to it. How dumb is that?

It's a compliment to Kid Rock on one hand...iTunes users want his song so much that they push the bootleg version onto the hitlist. But on the other hand...this means hundreds of thousands of people are paying money for a sound-a-like karaoke version! Kind of an insult as well.

I understand wanting more money but he is losing money to a karaoke band!

lol

iTunes is like chump change to big artists. I "think" they make like 8 cents a song, and 75 cents for a whole CD... ( or close )...

But Kid Rock is also a smart business person and the record companies are looking at this situation. Kid's latest album is booming because of "All Summer Long" and many people are buying the whole album...because they have no choice.

The whole album is excellent and first hand experience can be deceiving in light of perhaps promoters causing an attitude. Texas is known for being a verypompous producing stage. Kid Rockis a marketing genius and he truly sweats for his fans even when doing small venues. Ask my friend Maestro aka Steve Milani.

I agree. I think it's awful to go on itunes to find a certain single and then you end up sampling a karaoke knock off. This happened to me for a Beetles song I was looking for. I only use itunes and real player for my downloads. I wish if I knew of a one stop online shop for good and legit downloads.

I think Kid Rock is a smart business man on holding off on releasing it on Itunes. He's making more money by selling the whole cd which few artists accomplish nowadays. I have no problem with purchasing the whole cd or better yet have you looked at the sourceformusic website? I believe they have 2 different cds with the "All Summer Long" extended version for beatmixing and you get other songs from other artists. Itunes should not be your only source for new music.

Here's an article from Billboard.com about this:

Kid Rock's latest album "Rock'n'Roll Jesus" and its single "All Summer Long" have been two of the biggest hits of the summer. But it's happened without either being available for download via Apple's iTunes Music Store in the United States.

Rock has been an outspoken critic not only of track downloading but Internet piracy. In a "smartass" public service announcement he recently advised people to steal everything. Eschewing iTunes also proves a point, Rock adds.

"I tell people in my organization, 'Do not ever come up to me and say, "This is what everyone's doing and how they're doing it." Don't ever give me that lame-ass bullsh*t,'" he tells Billboard at a Nashville tequila bar. "As soon as someone says, 'You have to be on iTunes ... they're the No. 1 retailer' ... I don't have to. Because I remember being a kid when I heard a song that I liked, I would jump on the bus, ride to Detroit, get a $2.50 transfer and walk a mile to the hip-hop store to buy the new Eric B. & Rakim record. You're not going to stop people from obtaining what they want if it's available at some level."

However, Atlantic president Julie Greenwald says "Rock'N'Roll Jesus" will be available soon digitally in the States as an album via providers like Amazon, walmart.com, Rhapsody and bestbuy.com.

"We get so caught up in technology and ease [of downloading a single] ... there's nothing wrong with listening to a whole record from start to finish," Kid Rock co-manager Ken Levitan says.

In other news, Kid Rock and his Twisted Brown Trucker band recently cut a new song, "Warrior," for a National Guard commercial. It will be downloadable in its entirety on the National Guard's Web site once the commercial airs. He's also looking at launching signature beer and cigar products.

"I like [branding opportunities] when it's something I'm into, and I'm definitely into beer and cigars," Rock says. "You probably won't see me on the cover of a Wheaties box or selling Tide detergent, because it's irrelevant to me."

I like Kid -- he's got style :)

Yeah, he can be a PITA, but no doubt, he's got style -- sorta like a guy I remember named Frank... ;)

Let's hope he can stay outta jail long enough, to do some more good stuff...

It wasn't that long ago that Apple's slogan was "think differently", and yet now we see how someone who actually "thinks differently" gets viewed.

If you ever bought Apple products as a form of rebellion, you're a tool.

Kid Rock really does rock! Here are a couple photos my friend took while we were at a recent KR show in Vancouver. Yeah, we were up front, close & personal... Great show! That's Rev Run on stage with Kid. They did Walk This Way, Tricky and a few others... Awesome!
